'Traffic official Fahad Mubarak Al Abdullah told this newspaper: βIt was the mistake of the driver as well as the parent of the child. Children should be dropped near the main entrance of a school and they should also be picked from there.β '(from today's Peninsula article on this topic).
A bit later, you read this: "A team of investigators visited the spot. It was a tragic incident,β he commented.
So which is it? Is it the driver's and the parent's fault or is it a tragic accident, Mr. Al Abdullah?
I'm sorry, but who the hell elected this guy to draw blanket conclusions and start mouthing off to the press about it? I doubt they have filed charges against the mother (or even that they can) -- so until that happens, he has no business making any kind of official statements about the situation to anyone.
If that happened in the States, he would be sued for slander, and the newspaper would be sued for libel.
