PC gaming is dying because developers don't take time to develop good games on the PC, instead they are all console ports with terrible support for bugs that normal PC developers wouldn't have.
Pirating is a direct result of crappy games. I buy the games that I've pirated and enjoyed and thought to be good games.
It used to be that games were developed for PC, and then extensive demos (allowing one to play for 3-5 hours sometimes) were released, and gave you a good idea as to whether or not you wanted to buy the game... now they don't do that. Now they it's a game with no demo released that is 50$, and if you don't like it, oh well.
