My company applied for my initial work visa to so that I can come to Qatar and take up employment. Its been 2 weeks I have not heard from the company yet.

There is Live chat facility at Hukoomi website which probably can tell some information regarding the status of visa. Here is the link.

However I was wondering if it safe to contact Hukoomi directly to ask for my visa status when company is already dealing this thing?

I am just auxiously waiting answer from my company.

I just checked with my HR as it's been 3 weeks I am waiting for my visa. They replied saying that they are still waiting for my visa to get approved by the government and sometimes it takes up to 6 weeks.

Is this true?

they can't update on your visa status. Check with your company. Make sure that they have submitted the application in the first place, or it's still sitting on someone's desk at the office.. no kidding..
