Credit Card

Hi everyone! This is my first post and I hope that you can help.

I'll be moving to Doha soon and will need to rent a car. I don't have a major credit card and it seems that all of the rental car agencies require a major credit card imprint in order to rent a car even if you plan to pay with cash.

Is it easy to get a credit card through a bank in Doha with my employment contract?

Please advice. I'm feeling nervous! Thx in advance!

Friend of mine had the same situation.

She went through Select Qatar. They rent short and long term. If you pay the entire amount up front (I suggest going for 3 months), there is no need for a credit card.

But, like someone suggested... suggest getting a driver... even if just for the first week or 2.... it will make a world of difference just in getting a sense of direction. its difficult enough to navigate between white landcruisers and crazy buses and taxis without knowing where you're going.

Good luck!

Keeping passport as gtee is not a legally accepted practice. (You might have read a recent incident in the newspaper) If you can get your employer to provide a guarantee to the car rental company, they might give the car to you. Alternatively ask your company to hire a car for you under the company name.

don't be too eager to drive right away. qatar roads can be very unforgiving for newbies, no matter how good you are. better to hire a driver the first few weeks or months.

Yes as said, some allow passport. Also can take three pay cheques before you can get a credit card here and it also can take a while to sort your driving license, unless you have an international one. Good luck!
