Driving in Qatar: What do these lines on the road mean?
This post is meant for everyone who drives in Qatar or is in the process of getting a driver's license. It is important to know the traffic rules of the country in order to maintain harmony on the streets.
These pictures are courtesy of the Ministry of Interior - Qatar, and we would like to help them by sharing them here.
If you see single or double lines on two-way roads, please do not try to overtake on these roads. This is to avoid the risk of head-on collisions.
However, if you see broken or discontinuous lines on a road, you are allowed to overtake from the left side. Make sure that there no cars coming from the opposite direction before you overtake.
These diagonal lines mean that a passby road is joining the main road. Expect traffic to flow from these roads from the right into the primary road.
If you see a broken line at a junction or a T-road, give way to car to join the road you're on before you make a turn on to the adjoining road.
If you see a continuous line at a junction or T-road, you have to stop. Make your turn only after the other cars pass.
If you see yellow broken lines on the side of a road, it means you're allowed to park there for emergency purposes.
Continuous single or double lines mean that you're not allowed to park on that road.
If you see lines stacked horizontally across the road, they are meant for pedestrians to cross the road. Always give way to pedestrians waiting to cross the road. It shows that you respect them and that you have a great driving etiquette.
Quick Tip: Just keep in mind that continuous single or double line at the kerb of a road or middle of the road means 'NO'. Do not park or overtake at these lines.
Do not drive like the guy in the picture above. Share this post so everyone on the road - drivers and pedestrians - can stay safe.
Drivers in Qatar have problems keeping within broken white lines let alone zig zags and full white lines
Thanks for the post and I guess police will have to keep an eye on Land Cruisers as they don't know the rules.
Land cruisers dont know the meaning of the above photos,
When we call a pedestrian a Zebra ? ..................................... ....... ................... Wed, 29.10.2014, 08.00 hrs .......
this is refreshing, no doubt!
last one made me laugh
doesn't apply to land cruisers and big trucks because they use the footpath, islands and pedestrian walkways
Many thanks for posting as a reminder and how i wish all drivers in this country will respect and observe traffic rules & regulations to avoid car accidents or death.
i like the info on this: ..........................
If you see a broken line at a junction or a T-road, give way to car to join the road you're on before you make a turn on to the adjoining road.
