New Patrol vs Land Cruiser (Resale/Depreciation)
Hi QLers,
I know this question has been raised at least 2 times before (thru search), but can anyone comment how each one holds up in resale value?
I'm looking at a New Patrol or Land Cruiser, but what about resale value after say 4-5 years? Any comments on which one holds up better (generally). Also from what I understand Nissan parts cost a bit more here vs Toyota? (but how much more?)
Any Patrol or Land Cruisers can comment on their vehicles? I'm leaning towards the Patrol right now as it seems a bitter "bang for your buck" in regards to getting what you paid for in terms of car...
So hard to get information for Qatar specifically other than generalized word of mouth.
Many thanks!
Thanks so much for all the excellent, mature replies. Especially gulfranger! I actually just started to lean more on the 2016 Land Cruiser, but many things in it are all new. I believe the engine is the same, but the transmission etc are all new to the LQ.
Thanks again!
My only comment is "don't throw your money in cars" and make sure you buy a cheap and decent car. Cars here depreciate quickly and you seem to be very optimistic stop stay here 4 or 5 years. H'd say the average expat life here would be 3 years.
Very informative - thanks
Go for 2014/2015 models driven less than 15k-20k Kms which are still under manufacturer's warranty for the remaining 1.5 to 2 years. In this way u can save a lot of money instead of buying a zero km from the dealer.
Both are reliable Cars no doubt about it. they both have solid history of over 60 years....although by number of units being sold, the Land cruiser is top of the list always.
1) Land Cruiser A/C is more efficient than Patrol (when its 45C or more, u can feel the difference)
2) In addition to the rear roof A/C vent, the Land Cruiser has center console A/C Vent for the rear seating which Patrols don't.
3) Land Cruiser has a good re-sale value. Its like a cheque in your hand.
4) Maintenance Cost/Spare parts is cheaper compared to Patrols (Again there's a marginal difference in the Costs) My thinking is that if one can afford a land cruiser, he can also afford Nissan patrol. Patrols are slightly costly to maintain than the land cruiser. its not like the range rover where maintenance costs is exorbitantly high compared to the land cruiser
1) Nissan Patrol LE has the most powerful engine(400 HP) when compared to Lexus and Land Cruiser 5.7 L (approx. 363 Hp). Patrol LE has a better acceleration and power. You will definitely feel the adrenaline flow down your spine when u push the gas pedal. I am talking about the LE. (SE has almost same power as GXR)
2) Patrols are more comfortable to ride as they have more ground clearance and better suspension system.
3) Third row seating folds down into the base of the car so more space for luggage. in land cruiser they fold side ways so less luggage capacity. Mini Fridge can also be opened by the rear passengers where in land cruiser it can be only opened by the front seat occupiers.
4) Patrols have beasty look and are more sporty, elegant and stylish compared to Land Cruisers.
I would have suggested for 2016 Land cruiser but then the Engine capacity is the same 5.7 L with just extra gears being added up.
General Rule: refrain buying new models in its first year as there may be chances of product/part failure or manufacturer's recall for replacement etc. Better to buy new models starting the 2nd year as all issues might have been repaired or fixed by the manufacturer in its first year of launching.
New Car --> Peace of mind for next 4-5 years. However, you will certainly lose a lot of money during its resale after 4-5 years.
Used Car --> No guarantee if there is any mechanical/technical issue, risk of frequent maintenance. However, you may lose less money for its resale.
Personally, as PATROL owner, I recommend this car as its simply amazing for both on-road & off-road driving.
None of the new car have resale value. 140k new prado, just 8k km over in 6 month, he is struggling to sell at 120k. 95k rav4, 14k km over in one year. advertised for 78k, people still look for reduced price.
My advise is, if u look for resale value, dont go for new car. If u want to have your car for 4 or 5 year, then you go for new car.
Whether nissan or Toyota, The routing maintenance is same.
In Qatar , the Landcruiser is more popular than the Patrol. In the UAE, it is the other way round. The Patrol is more expensive (top of the range) ..
You can't go wrong with either.
