I am thinking of buying a second hand car for my stay in Doha. I made my mind on 2 models, the Infinity FX35 and the Range Rover Sport, I don't like the Toyota or the Nissan, and Lexus is to expensive. What to you guys advice me? I need a reliable car and not very expensive to maintain.

No matter what car you, the weather here in the summer will put a toll your car.

Since the Jeep was constructed as a General Purpose vehicle (GP), the Wrangler can cope with the miserable roads. However, it's NOT a family car. But bachelors have more fun anyway.

The cars in Qatar are indeed imported. They aren't made here. What breaks EVERY car in Qatar are the miserable roads. In addition to that, the miserable drivers are a constant threat. Buy as cheap as possible. Qatar is going to ruin any car.

I don't want to spend huge amounts of cash on a car that I am not going to use more than 2 years.I just want a car suitable for Doha, to be safe and reliable.

Thanks for the advice guys

Cars for Qatar are built the same and in most if not all cases have the highest available options which come as standard for any model of car. This is actually a myth that cars for US and UK are built different from Qatar..they are the same cars with different options and few changes which are more to do with emissions/regulations and nothing to do with the weather.

BMW in my personal experience are the cheapest to maintain if you are buying new or buying a car which still has extended warranty and maintenance. You can renew warranty for 7 years and maintenance for 10+ years which covers literally EVERYTHING but tyres and petrol. I have owned few sedans and high performance cars from BMW including X5M my current M5 and not once have I faced any issue which was not covered under warranty/maintenance. Buying an old car with no warranty is asking for trouble anyway..buying an old luxury car with no warranty is suicide. BMW won't break down but you need to spend more than 80k to get something which still has warranty and service package.

I would suggest a landcruiser for 80k..

That's why I suggested an FJ Cruiser. It's funky , fun and will go off-road . The FX35 won't . Alternatively go for a Wrangler. Lots of fun but not very comfortable

Q7 better than X5?In Qatar I am trying to stay away from german cars because the service cost is damn high. So the Range Rover is out of the discussion. I had a Land Cruiser(Doha Prado) as a company car and I don't like it because it is dull and no fun to drive. I want something a bit more fun

For 80k you're better off going for an FJ Cruiser .. It's different , reliable and good value . Otherwise go for the fx 35 or possibly a Q7

Why do assume that I want something flashy but also to be cheap? In my country I own an Evoque and never spent money on it, even after 150k kilometers. Here cars are built different than in Europe and Usa, and I don't know how reliable they are. I don't want to spend 80k qar on an Range and then 20k on service... is as simple as this. I like bmw but isn't service a pain? My budget is around 80k, and I want an SUV, something reliable and capable of not breaking down every 10k kilometers. Advice?

What is your price range? I would suggest BMW X5 or X6 if you want a reliable car which is easy to maintain. Maintenance is very cheap if you buy the plan from BMW or FREE if you buy a car which is already under warranty/maintenance from BMW. Warranty and maintenance plan from BMW only excludes tyres and petrol..everything else is included in it.

It's a typical question on QatarLiving: How can I get the best at the cheapest? It is clear that there is a massive contradiction in the question, but the question is still being asked frequently. Something is wrong with some people.

If you want class, then go for the Range Rover.

If you want reasonable running costs then go for the Infinity

@RoSavage, who conveyed the message that a Range Rover Sport is NOT expensive and low budget to maintain? If you need a reliable car then you have to shell out a bit more than the ordinary and it will surely be a bit more expensive to maintain. You cannot have all the options to match yours..
