advice from bakers regarding ovens please :)

Hi guys
Yet another strange obstacle I find here in Doha...
The compound we are moving into requires that we buy our own appliances.. Which means we have to buy our own fridge stove oven etc..

Our dilemma lies in the fact that if we are to purchase a gas cooker with an oven
All ovens here are not fanforced !
They seem to have a upper and lower heating element only but no function for fanforce
So how does one bake cake or cookies
Cakes ESP need circulating heat to rise properly
A few of the electric stoves have fan forced ovens with them but none of the gas cookers do unless I get the wider heavy duty one 90cm
Which I am ok with but will have cough up about 3500 instead of 1900 for 60cm size

Could the bakers on this forum pls have a look at their oven and see If there is a fan in heir oven or do they use a 'normal' upper and lower heating element and does this work find for cakes?
If u do have a fan forced oven could u pls advise me of the brand to allow me to hunt this down
So far in Carrefour and lulu they only have this one gigantic 90cm heavy duty gas stove oven combo which I did have in Australia
But am thinking do I need such a large size here or can I get by with the typical sizes here of 60cm wide

Hope I am making sense - many thks for your help!

I will suggest to you to order from Dubai Wolf oven and Sub zero fridge as is one of the best in the world and you can ship to Australia one day..is expensive but is worth the money. If you can't spend so much than go for Japanese Hitachi fridge... regarding oven I'm not sure what you can find in Doha...Good luck...welcome to Doha!!!!!

Thks guys

Gus's will have to use a non fan forced oven and see how that works.. Yes the fan circulates the heat provides even distribution

:)

Guess won't know how these ovens work till I try!

No shak, it is the opposite. It increases oven temp and also ensures there is an even temp in the oven, which is good for baking

I believe like the same way a computer or a CPU needs a fan. This is for cooling purpose and to avoid over heat and fire.

I bake in a usual gas oven without any fan and get great cakes. And my mom does so for life. I have no idea why fan is needed in the oven and how it can make any difference for baking.

Hi

I agree, a fan assisted oven does assist with baking. but i am sure that I have baked here without one (my current oven is broken and trying to get fixed). Just ensure your oven is at it's the right temp, which means leavning on to warm up for a while and of course do not open it mid point but I am sure I am teaching grandma to suck eggs.

And by the way, my grandmother was a baker by trade and she, I am sure did not have a fan assist oven and turned out lovely bread, cakes, pies, flans etc

The thing to ensure is to make sure you buy a good make of cooker and get a guarantee!!!!

gctodoha, I don't think you will get much help on here. Try this www.expatwoman.com

the Qatar section.

Good luck! :)
