Anybody know where I can buy Borax in the city?
I've decided to take matters into my own hands regarding the over-perfumed detergents and no other options for sale.
Recipes to make your own detergents are simple and effective according to my research, BUT you need this one ingredient called Borax.
Has anyone ever seen this ingredient anywhere in the city? All other ingredients that I need are readily available--just need that last one!
Thanks! And let me know if you want me to post some links to making your own detergents because it seems really easy and people say they work well ... and aren't full of scents and extraneous chemicals.
Peace!
Borax, which we often used as a laundry additive in the US, in NOT the same thing as boric acid.
Other names for Borax are sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate.
you may have joy if you look for either lab supply companies or swimming pool maintainance; sodium borate is used as a buffer to control the Ph.
You may also have joy ordering some from a vets.
An alternative could be Sodium hydroxide (Lye), but I'd personally stay away from tht stuff unless you have experience with corrosive substances.
I don't know where to find it, but you might have better luck searching for it under the name "boric acid". It is a white powder.
My mom used it as a odor remover for our laundry. We also used it for cleaning.
Interestingly, when I was looking to purchase it in Australia I was met with gasps of horror. Apparently it is illegal (?) to purchase it there because they consider it to be a toxin. I don't know where I stand on it being "good" or "bad", but it's worth checking into.
Occasionally Megamart will have the dye/fragrance free Tide. . .but I mean VERY occasionally. The last time I saw it there I purchased all 11 bottles.
Good luck,
