the basic dilemma.... Camry or Accord?

By mark_andrews

it is pointless to elaborate on the positive attributes of these two cars as they are equally good so i came up with a list of negative comments i've searched from the web and hopefully those who own or have driven these two great cars can shed some light on it. please feel free to share your comments; your inputs will be very helpful.

08 Camry:
*auto transmission often hesitates (hunting gears) when accelerating / deccelerating, changing lanes or merging into traffic
*under-powered 2.4 liter engine

08 Accord:
*noisy interior (road and engine noise)
*no rear A/C vent

All cars are good!!! It depends on the owner's needs. If you A/C vents are your problem, just modify it to suit your need. All you need is lots and lots of capital "M" then it'll solve ALL your woes. :D

Accord 2008 is the superb.....just go for it...

I driving it from 8 months i dont have any compnains regarding what you have mentioned .

Low ground clearance. You keep scratchng the humps. You cannot close middle A/C vents

Better go for Altima

In Japan. Camry is sold as Daihatsu Altis

Nothing is more relaxing than flying like an Eagle in Heaven !!

Worst 2 cars in market! go for the legacy subaru 2008! AWD (stable), full option, great look and ... it is a suby! symetrical boxer engine! H4 or H6... the engine is not a V-type which makes it very active and better than others!!

well the diff. matters on what apect and how you look both, i mean the Perfomance, Interior Comfort and Luxury, Purpose (family or Single),etc.

sure on Perfomance and style Accord gets away with accolades.what generally people find as drawback on Honda is Maintanence Cost and spare parts.

Toyota Camry leads sedan segment due to the conception that its a good family car and not so high maintenance costs along with value at Second-hand market.

in detail almost every car might have some drawbacks but for our peace of mind select the most suitable and value worth vehicle.

Wish you all the Best

for sure Accord is better then Camry in both I4 and v6 versions.

New generation Camry V6 is no longer a reliable car according to Consumer Reports. Therefore you won't find a single Camry V6 in Qatar as well as in GCC. Toyota brought Aurion as a replacement for Camry V6. Read this report

As for me HONDA "Accord" is a little bit better than TOYOTA "Camry".

Don’t listen people who speak about a resale value. It’s not the same case when you try to sell Korean car against Japanese one! The difference is not so drastic at all!!!

For my opinion you might seat in both ("Accord", "Camry") cars and feel by self which one of them is really YOURS!!!

Small notice: remember that service in Honda is organized better than in TOYOTA.

:-) Part of owning a honda is the noise the vtec engine makes.I do not know whether HONDA purposely reduce the noise dampening material.Although it just happens when you rev the engine. If you drive sedately it is perfectly fine. The V6 is a beaut. 2.4litre is fine.

As for the aircon - no rear vents is a disadvantage but the blower/aircon is great and will cool in some time (although not immediately - no issues though)

Toyota commands a premium in this market.Don't expect any freebees from them. I think honda is now giving out free navigation, rear sensors and bluetooth - not sure though.

one more funny thing here in qatar is that camrys are priced higher than accords whereas if you check the retail price in say US or japan, accords are always more equipped and thus expensive. the only worry i have on accord really is the seemingly consistent comments on reviews on the net that the cabin is a bit noisy. does having no rear vents gave the accord a disadvantage? will it still effectively cool the huge cabin using the dash vents only?

The deciding factor is the After sales Service...

...cause you have to service your car regularly and would not like to be treated like dirt which Toyota does.

Anybody who has self respect wouldnt buy Toyota!

....The question of cheaper parts doesnt even arise as things are covered by insurance.

Both cars are good. Actually i was going to buy accord but at the last moment i went for honda civic but i do not regret it as i am happy with its power accelration.

I think Acord is little better than camry. Do also consider corolla and civic but it is upto you. Actually the power weight ratio of both civic and accord is the same, i have felt that civic is a good powerful vehicle and therefore accord must be so as well.

As per JD power, Among 2008 models, Camry’s overall quality rating is higher than Accord.

Take both cars for service and the Accord will come out trumps...toyota service is a nightmare. Its a joy to service my Accord and a nightmare to service my prado (toyota in qatar just doesn't care about its customers)

If you do not care for a slightly higher resale value go for the Accord. They both equally good (or equally bad depends how you look at it ). The accord is Japanese built and the quality shows. Camry is Australian built but Toyota has maintained its quality. Altima is a good and powerful car but i do not like the American build quality - horrid.

Consider the cream interiors cause it looks airy and has an elegant finish. Big no no if you have kids though. The grey interiors look drab.

i think camry is the best compared to accord

- first of all the spare parts are much cheaper & available easily compared to accord

- have re-sale value.....dats the biggest advantage!!!

Accord 2009 model if you wait one more month surely would be better . Even 2008 model is great though and no noise probs at all .

Good resale value also .

I drove 2004 Accord for 4 years and I am driving the new 2008 Accord(3.5 l) for the last 2 months. Accord is beyond compare and class of its own. Camry doesn't stand before accord in any manner. I am wondering why people so crazy about buying camry which doesn't have any value for money. Since, Toyota rules the market in Qatar, it is favourite for many. I don't think Camry is a better car. I drove a 2006 Camry for 2 weeks and it really sucks. The auto transmission is horrible with jerks when reducing speed. Aerodynamics is very poor which creates lots of irritating noise of wind at high speeds, interfering with the music inside car's cabin. Brakes are awfully bad. The brakes of Accord is the best and I got saved many a times due to the best brakes of Accord. Features like noise cancelling inside cabin, six CD changer, better sound qulity with premium sound system makes Accord a winner over Camry. Even the high end camry is having the age old tape system for audio. turning radius of Accord is the shortest of its class. The list is endless if go we on counting the advantages of Accord over Camry. If you search in google with Accord vs Camry you will find Accord is superior over Camry. I pitty on the buyers of Camry as they simply buy it because of the local market value, compromising all the comforts Accord have.

because they have the power of numbers. there are a lot of them which translates into better resale market, long history of reliability and quality but far from perfect of course. n'way, vignale, what would you suggest as the best family sedan without considering the merc and beamers.?

By anonymous• 24 Sep 2008 19:19

Both Cars are extremely boring and I cannot understand why people buy them at all when there are so many fantastic cars made.

Then why do you want to buy either one of them??
