beware before buying a laptop
Can somebody explain to me why laptop configurations that dont make any sense are being sold in major hypermarkets in Doha as part of the Ramadan festival?
Laptops that are not Vista compatible are being shipped with Vista Home Basic and then the website related to this laptop states that these laptops are not eligible for vista upgrades. I haven't finished. Further investigation shows that no drivers are available for these laptops in Windows XP either but there are some drivers available in Vista.
Looks like doha is becoming a dumping ground for laptops that dont belong anywhere or else the companies are trying to drive up vista sales and installing them anywhere..
Should we be blaming windows for all these hazzles. Even accessories and attachments like webcams seems to have the same trouble with vista. Next to feel the crunch are programs which are not compatible with vista

Hi Zohaer21 I agree with you. I used to work in a computer store so one thing i picked up on whilst there is that Acer and Dell are among the top brands of laptop on the shelf so you can't go wrong with them.
What you are will show in what you do.

Carrefour, has lots of stock of laptops, ok, he contacts microsoft, and says i have very low spec laptops with xp licenses that were not used, micrsoft says ok, here vista basic, make ppl buy these laptops (although some of them are vista capable, and still come with vista starter) and sadly thats the truth, worthless, and very good laptops end up with vista starter on them, just to increse sales, alnd lower stock levels to get new stock.

i have seen some of these laptops at Carrefour.
Models include the Compaq F550EE.
Still looking at other models that are supposedly "Vista Incapable" but are shipped with Vista Home Basic.
which retailers ? and what makes?
all the reputed makes like dell and acer wouldnt do these shameful tactics.. its either at the retailers end that something fishy is going on or rather at the consumer's end (looking at chinese or other UNKNOWN pc / laptop makers.. always stay away from them!)
Its trying to get rid of XP users, and making them all switch to Vista, even though its a starter edition, personally i have the ultimate on my desktop and laptop, and its working great, but i tried the starter and its a waste of time for sure, download the vista theme online, and u would be better off.
