Buying Apple computer

Hi Laptop owners,

I am used to the regular microsoft op systems as my laptop. HoweverI wish to buy a new one when I go to US in a couple of weeks. I am contemplating upon buying an Apple Macbook. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons? How is the service support in Doha? How easy would it be to operate the system and I am sure the price must be much higher.

Thanks

If you are a designer, dont even think about buying an apple unless if it has 4 gb ram or if its the G5 pro pcs. Perhaps even if you want to use Apple for everyday use, I wouldnt recommend, it has looks but not features. There's no msn messenger, you cannot play video games on it, alot of videos wont work on it aswell, hardware compatibility issues.

We have the imacs at work which we bought for about 9,000 riyals and belive it or not, the slowest windows pc that we have works better than them. I've even worked with Mac's G4 Pro, even they crash and freeze. Stick to windows not vista, xp is the best so far.

It's always the small things that make big differences.

It would be definitely a worth buy, but make sure you decide which exact model you would like yo get. personally, if you have the money i syggest you get a macbook pro 17 aluminium laptop, its a great computer. the service here is appaling at best to be honest. however, do not think that you will be needing service for it. since it is a very hardy laptop, and can survive any abuse you throw at it. also the software is easy to use, productive and elegant. am i starting to sound like a saleswoman :-) ooops. cheers

You'll never look back after buying a Mac...there are cons and pros owning one in Doha (like everything); Be aware that Qtel have no idea about technical issues concerning the net and macs...which for me is a pro, as they have no idea about proxies...LOL....

There are service centers in Doha that deal with Macs like seirdron said. Oh and I wouldn't be taking it to Virgin as I can imagine you paying an arm and leg for their services.

In terms of the OS, it's easy peasy....you get a manual with all the features and sure you can find some nice QL user to show you the ins and outs...You'll love the genie effect and the cute widget features!!

There is an authorized service center for apple MAC computers in doha, they provide software and hardware support. For software support it is located in Al Rayyan Complex 2nd floor Apple Center, the Ground floor is their showroom. For Hardware problem it is located in Shara Diwan Street, the bldg itself is in front of Alfardan perfumery, you will see apple logo on both sites.

Those MAC/iPod bought, from carrie four/city center are forwarded to this service center for servicing.

Note: Software problem is charged with minimal fee.

There is MAC support in the city centre - apple authorised. My husband is arranging a new hard drive on warranty through them.

buy a Mac - you will never regret it.

I met the guy from Virgin store in Villagio who deals with mac comps. He said that there is no service center here in doha and that you need to give your mac comps to him at the store. He even said that they don't accept macs bought outside. By the way Mr.Abumaid where did you get those works done? Was it in Doha or elsewhere?

Hi everyone,

By the way I think customer service in Doha is the worst in the world, be it in any field. Toyota is a good example. In UK you are pampered as a customer even if you are only a window shopper. Where lies the difference?

Is it the education or lack of competition? Anyway God bless the people out here.

been buying apples for ever...the older power pc (i think ibm) chips in my opinion were more reliable and the laptops ran at lower temps...the newer ones (i have the 2.16 intel G5) are also great, but after having them on for an hour or so your thighs melt....also be sure to get a warranty with it, because so far i had one defective ram replaced and my battery recalled....but the ability to run to systems flawlessly is just gr8...

new leapord is commming they say in October..and its supposed to be gr8,cant wait to have both leapord and vista running...

get a Mac. You'll be happy!

If worst comes to worst and you can't get used to OSX, you can always install WINDOWS on it. (Yes you can use windows on an Apple)

Myself i had a Compaq, a Toshiba, and a Dell throughout living here. Compaq/HP service was ok more or less, Toshiba (so stupid in service) and Dell (Installed a motherboard on my brand new laptop that is a year older than the current one......).

The new Mac OSX is coming, buy one, and make sure that the processor is an intel(R) so u can flip thru Windows and Mac on the same Laptop.

Good luck with the laptop

Cheers.

Good thing about MAC's is they hardly ever freeze or break like microsoft does.

If you do decide to stick with microsoft, what ever you do, DON"T buy an HP- they break and have horrible support.

IBM make's a good quality laptop along with the pricier Dell's. MAC's are still superior- but wait for the new os that is coming out.
