What is the difference between any other supermarket and the one in The Centre?

Why there prices are always 30 to 40 percent higher then other markets. In addition, most of there product do not have any price tag on it.

There is no standard price policy here for products which are not subsidised by the Government but there should be a price tag. If Megarmart is not putting price tags then nobody is complaining about it to their Management. There is a Department under the Ministry of Commerce where conusmers can submit their complaints.

Whenever you shop, you should watch out for the prices. I have found that certain items in Carrefour are more expensive when you buy in bulk (box) versus buying individual pieces. Also I noticed that some items there are more expensive than Megamart. Other items are more expensive in Megamart. Other items are better in FFC. So basically I go to these 3 shops and buy whatever I need from respective stores according to their price or availability of product. When I do my shopping I usually end up going from one shop to the other. However it is time consuming.... so for you who do not have time to shop this way will have to pay the higher prices. The least expensive stores are the Al Meera shops, but they do not carry a lot of foreign products. So as Tallg mentioned it is a question of offer, effort & demand!

Megamart in The Centre is keeping some products used by the Europeans which are not available in any other bigger supermarkets like Lulu and Carrefour. Their customers are mainly Europeans and most of them get their bills re-imbursed by their Companies so they dont care if Megarmart is charging them 30-40 percent higher than any other supermarkets in Qatar.

Secondly the location is next to Ramada with an extention), so they can fool visitors but not to local residents.

UAE has recently laid a fair pricing policy for supermarkets to standardise the rates of essential items

ulas;

Nope, I'm fairly sure they can charge whatever they want, and I'm fairly sure there's no requirement to put the price on the products - though obviously it's helpful if they do!

It's a business, it works on the laws of supply and demand. If people are willing to pay a high price then they're sure as hell going to charge a high price!

And I don't think supermarkets have regulatory authorities to ensure fair pricing. That would be ridiculous.

Supermarkets are a business, they can charge what they want.

Right observation, there is no pricing policy in the country.

These are mainly Non-GCC produces and most of these product sell by Mega Mart are directly imported from EU nations; where u will not find any instructions in Arabic

Hey Tallq,

You mean they just can charge what ever they want. There isn’t any authority to monitor there pricing strategy? What about price tag on the product don’t they have to mention price? Sorry to inform but I think you are mistaking in here…. There might be something to control those people.

I mean I am not talking about my self all I need is just too stay away from going there. However, this is unfair to buy it for 1 and sell it to 10… Especially they do not pay any taxes or what ever…

Prices more expensive because of it's customer base - ability to pay and expectations of quality. Because it's expensive, it's not as crowded as Lulu, FFP, etc. so some people prefer to shop there for the convenience.

I shop in carrefour, Lulu and FFP cos I'm on a budget but go to Megamart if I'm in a hurry or only have 1-2 items to get as it's on the way home. If buying in bulk, that'll bust my budget.

FFP is also on the way home but if only 1-2 items, I avoid the crowds esp. since some strangers (guys) tend to use any excuse to come too close for comfort.

/Buying in bulk, I use a shopping cart ;)

Supermarkets can charge what they want. You don't have to shop there.

Megamart in The Center stocks lots of products that aren't available in other supermarkets.
