Well I read somewhere - officials had entered a couple supermarkets including Carrefour, and removed a load of meat and when I say a load, I mean A LOAD!! Why? Because it was unfit for human consumption!! This is meat we are all probably eating. Disgusting isnt it?! God only knows how long it's been sat there and they havent removed it from the shelves.
There are many of them dotted around Doha mainly down residential lanes off the main roads, generally neighboring bakeries and small grocery stores aka "bakkalas" . The one I frequent is in my local, which is down a lane in the old Al Ganim area. But you get these poulterers all over so just inquire from folks around where you stay.
Echo Fathimah, and you are double sure that it has been slaughtered the way you wanted it when it comes to chickens. For other meats, i think the best place to go to are the faster selling outlets and Lulu is one of them.
Dean and Delucca, but you pay a premium. IMO the quality of the meat varies from day to day. No place is consistently great. The other issue is to AlWAYS thoroughly cook it. Going rare here is running the infectious bacteria gauntlet due to inconsistent refrigeration and slopping repackaging.
Thanks Rauf - I won't bother to go to that branch then and if one more person walks passed me who stinks of BO, I will be tempted to throw a deodrant at them!
but Giant store's fresh meat section is quite acceptable too on most days.I get fresh livers from there and they are good enough. However when it comes to a full chicken I prefer to go to the fresh poulterers. Where you pick your bird and they slaughter and prepare it for you then and there. Yes it's not for the faint of heart but at least you are safe in knowing it can't get fresher than that!
Radoha i agree with you.. I would suggest that lulu should have more BIG deodorant advertisement>.. Aren't they concerned about it or this is just a part of how they can save money :D
LL - I went there and it was full of male labourers - we were like sardines in a tin... they had no idea about personal space... and i think a lot of people were unaware that lulu actually sell deodourant :)
for me it's also Lulu selling more of the fresh meat because more people are coming there so the products are easily finished and so they order again and again the soonest...
stay away from the Lulu at airport road, it is not a place a woman should really go.
Try lul in Al Gharaffa... we get our meet from carrefour and Lulu, Family Food Center near the airport is also ok... I have not tried it from megamart... not sure if it is going to be at an extortionate price there

Carrefour meat section does not smell good
@FatimaH - can you recommend a fresh poulterer? I would prefer that but i dont think there are any near where i live.
what are the stories you heard about the meat here?
Thanks everybody.
I live near Villaggio, where is the nearest slaughter place? Prefer that option.

I think all the supermarkets were already mentioned! It's a matter for the OP to go and visit all and check the meat herself!
