to some extent the megapixel thing is a marketing strategy - the "consumer" must have as many megapixels as possible , or so the marketeers would have you believe. The reality is that any camera with more than about 8 megapixels will create huge files of say 9 megabytes if you set the camera to take full advantage of all the information it can capture ( ie more detailed picture). The you will find that you don't have enough on board memeory to hold the images and you may not even be able to email them - result? You then adjust the settings to create files of about 3meg, perfect for most people who don t enlarge pics above A5. Try looking the lense quality - Sony offer Carl Ziess, but Panaasonic iffer the superior Leica lense.and ccd size and quality. And expect to pay up to QR1800 for a decent camera.

current models of sony, fuji, nikon, canon, casio, kodak, etc...they all take great pictures(number of pixels doesnt matter)if you know how to use them...
ako rin currently looking for a new cam. hanapin mo lng yung may manual setting at mataas ang ISO.nasa specs naman yan.para makatira ka ng mgagandang results for night shots.
Depends wht you lukin for.. if its only pixel you get cheaper ones.. if u need one with more zoom try Nikon p80.. which will cost around 1700 riyals. which is 10 mega pixel with 18x zoom.
You'll pay about 1000 QR for that... but if you have access to purchasing it in an other country, it could be much cheaper (in the US, same camera is only $200/750QR)
The prices vary a lot, depending on what your priority is (i.e. zoom, megapixals, msc features)... The shop next to Jarir has lots of Sony products (just go to the back, pass all the makeup and perfume). Can't remember what it's called, but just park where you would for Jarir and it's to the right.

Deciding on the right type of camera you want depends in one factor, How 'deep is your Pocket' when it comes to the money?
Normally I follow reviews and specifications, then I would decide, once I narrow down which is the best one for my need.
Here is one link I normally would use:

Good luck
