Doha Bank refuses 50/100 Notes!!!

Hi.. I would like to share my unfair and illogic customer service experience that I had with Doha Bank, Lulu D-Ring Road Branch, I was in Doha Bank on last Saturday, 21 Mar 2015 around 8.15pm to deposit QR. 28,000, my money bundle was contained 24 notes of 500 and rest was 50 and 100 notes. When I reached the counter, he looked at me and my cash bundle, then directly the Cashier told me that he can’t accept this cash bundle and he accept only 500 notes! Since it was very urgent for me to deposit, I have requested him several times, but, he totally ignored me and refused without any specific reason, then I have requested him to give me in written that he can’t accept it, but he was not ready to do so and he told me that "go to lulu cashier and get it exchanged to 500 notes then come back to me", I was really surprised with his solution! Moreover, he was challenging me to raise a complaint against him if I have any problem. Finally, I was helpless, so, I followed his instruction and went to Lulu Money Exchange and converted all 50 and 100 notes to 500. Then, I approached him again and he accepted my deposit. I was totally surprised with his approach as he was very adamant in dealing with me and other customers too!!! Now, I have discussed this issue with The Consumer Protection under Ministry of Business and Qatar Central Bank and waiting for their appropriate action. While discussing with concerned authorities, I have re-confirmed that ‘NO BANK CAN REFUSE ANY CURRENCY’. Please be aware of it. Thanks a lot for reading… Good luck to all…

Mr Doha Bank, some one said, Justice delayed is justice denied. Your response is almost after 4 months on a serious matter. In what way this would help any one on earth now. The only consolation is, atleast some one from DB responded although it is too late. Thanks again.

Hi jamalp. Sorry that you have experienced this service lapse from us and we sincerely hope it has not happened again since. We will investigate this matter, rest assured. Did you complain officially to anyone at the Bank at the time? If so, you may have received an earlier response. Best wishes.

I was one of those who have seen this one time while the QL developer was editing and adding some widgets to this site, I witnessed the "top users" widget (5 most active users monthly) and definitely MM was on the top due to the number of his posts. They regretted right away so they had it removed. LOL. Too bad I didn't capture a screen shot. Anyways, just do your thing. Let me be the bigger person and just accept you for what you are you ~!@#$%^&*()_+.

Mauve, Good Morning, Your point of view is right but the truth remains for ever ..... suppose when you buy grocery from LuLu D Ring Road you need a trolly & you buy 5 - 10 kgs sruff every trip .... but would you need the same trolly & buy same weight in a pearls store or a jewellery shop ?

Mauve, For gold & gems we need a very small box ....... ........... so one liners are from this precious category ............

Ishu, I appreciate your understanding ........... but you must admit that our thought process keeps on developing continuously ......... so after posting a comment if a better idea comes up we should not stop ourselves from sharing it ...... this will deprive you from an updated version of the solution ........... but I am sure you deserve latest inputs with up-to-split second info on the subject .........

Actuall we should discourage to write a boring essay if you are able to grab the central theme from a few words ..........

@Jamal, Thanks for sharing, you missed a golden chance to screw the cashier on the spot. You ought to have complained to his higher ups for spot enquiry. Now what ever the internal enquiry they conduct, he will have his own concocted reasons for having refused and by and large, bank will support him only to save their bank image. It would be a lesson for other cashiers who usually behave rude with asian customers.

@Brit, not one from any doha bank would comment on this issue, its a question of their reputation which is in stake, if at all it turns out to be a genuine allegation.

Brit, Work load in the banks is one issue & other one is GFs ...... when you get involved with some who often asks you out to shopping malls & restos then you get tired so next morning your customers complain against you without understanding your heart's feeling is very painful ............ customers must look for the root cause ............

doha bank @ dukhan branch is best in customer service !! any how you did right thing by complaining the injustice happened with u . hope some action will be taken on that guy so that he dont cause inconvenience to any other customer in future !!

even the branch in "Bin Omran"'s town centre , they have one cashier always sitting in the last left , I don't know about now might be there or shifted .This guy when he see the amount more than 30000 qr he will not give you the money he will say the signature is not correct with the one in the system and he will tell you you have to wait 30mnt for approval from the corporate branch , cos he doesn't has a confidence in himself. fourth times acted like that with me and the fourth times I withdraw the money from another doha bank's branch in Freej alnser with out any remarks. the problem is that guy wasn't rejecting the cheques cos of not verified signature , he used to compare the amount of the cheque with the holder's personality and nationality , coz most of the time the amount be above 50000qr and sometimes I used to face delay of transferring the money on the same date, cos of his pullsheet philosophy , instead of following the rule of Qatar's central bank regarding cheques , he wasting the time of others by his meaning less philosophy .

Whatever he will say, brit, by law, a bank MUST accept all official currency of the country, even coins!! Otherwise the currency makes no sense. The state guarantees that.

Any bank cant refuse 50 or 100 notes because it is Qatari riyals. You should inform to Dr.SeethaRaman too. Good that you have complained about this injustice. No one else should get this type of discrimination. Most of the times the employees in the Bank even though there is not enough work the customers have to wait long time to get their number displayed in the board.
