Can anyone tell the the best grocery store to go to in Doha?  I will be moving there in June.... Do the "compounds" have their own stores?

Thanks!

Eliminate all the countless hours you spend shopping for your groceries and household supplies, standing in line, and fighting traffic. Now you can spend your time doing the things you really enjoy. In just minutes you can place your grocery delivery order online at www.groceryqatar.com you will have your groceries delivered right From The Store....To Your Door!

Skanky, cut the guy some slack : )

In my opinion, the best stores for groceries are Giant Stores, QMart, Mega Mart and Family Food Centre.

Megamart at The Centre is much smaller than the old store at Landmark and it doesn't carry as much stock. Have you been in there on a Friday morning? You can't move. They need to be opening more branches, not closing them down.

There is a large Al Meera near Rainbow roundabout. I use a smaller one across from the zoo. There are others around town too.

few compounds have thier own stores but there are small stores near almost all compound which deliver stuff at your door, but their prices are higher than the big supermarkets.

The problem with Doha is that while you can get designer clothes, designer shoes, designer handbags, designer luggage, up-market cars etc etc, there isn't actually much in the way of up-market western food. Megamart at Landmark had the best selection but they closed it and replaced it with a yet another Carrefour. My friends tell me that they spend less at Carrefour than they would have spent in Megamart. Well, so do I because at Carrefour they don't stock half the things on my shopping list. I've been shopping at Al Meera since Megamart closed. I try to avoid Carrefour if possible.

I go to Mega Mart for special stuff that it has and no one other does, but the general stuff I go the the Meera corporation.

If you go into it knowing you can't find everything at one shop, it will save you tons of frustration. Stocked shelves are hard to come by. Some of the bigger ones are Carrefour (sort of like a Walmart), Giant, Al Meera, Megamart and Shoprite (carry lots of western items but very pricey), Lulu's and Family Food Center. You'll probably have a small one near your house that you'll like as well. If you find something you like -- buy in bulk!

Just check the expiry date on the goods prior to purchase.

Depends what you are looking for. My friends go to different groceries for different stuff - some things can be found in some shops but not in the others

The best one is shoprite. Some compounds do have grocery stores, but others dont.

You do not have to worry about this kind of stuff now. You'll get everything around in nearby Al Meera or in some of the relatively large stores.
