Hi,

I just received my IKEA shipment from Dubai. I had to buy the items there (very close to the airport- but you need a taxi) - or a good friend who buys it for you!

You have to virtually get the items through the checkout on your trolley and leave them at the delivery section where you fill out the delivery papers.

I received a sms and later a mail from the ARAMEX office who processed the order/import/delivery. It costs 300 QAR minimum charge (or 3.7 QAR per kg weight) PLUS 5% tax PLUS 150 QAR for packing PLUS 100 QAR for handling fees (plus optional insurance if desired). A total of 750 QAR for me for 1250 QAR worth items (120 kg weight).

Took about 10 days to reach my home in Doha- no real hassle if you want to pay extra for getting IKEA here in Doha.

Maybe one day we will get our own store over here...

don't you like the 14th century furniture they sell here!

I heard Ikea, like many other companies, won't come here because of the 51% rule and the abuses that comes with it.

Patty, i thought that as well but it is not true.

I wanted to buy something from Ikea last month and i called, they said sorry even if you have the item code, you have to come to dubai and buy it.

After like a week, i had the chance to go to dubai for something, and i said, ok i will go and buy and then ask them to ship it to doha. unfortunately, all the items i was interested to buy were out of stock.

But anyways, the shippment cost is nothing serious, i guess around 500 riyals for something huge, around 200-300 for a chair or something.

Hi there

If anyone has any experience of importing furniture from Ikea, please post and advise your experience/shipping costs. I might consider it.

I want to buy a decent chair as I get a bad back with the sofa in my apartment. I thought I'd get something with a fancy design (an investment - something trendy and artistic like you might get in Purves & Purves in London). Anyway, I've found nothing decent in Doha. If you guys know anywhere I could buy such a thing in Doha, please let me know. Much appreciated

i spoke today to somebody who has called with ikea and he said that you do not need to go there in person you can puchase over fone with a creditcard. I dont know if its true. It can be just a rumor. That same person told me that ikea will be here in 2 years. When i spoke with them in august last year they told me that they will be in doha in 4 years. So some where in the middle it will be. I hope i will still be here.
