I'm a very frugal person. I do most of my shopping spree only when stores are on sale. So when this thread caught my eye, I excitedly went to it...only to find out that this announcement has been made 3 months ago.:(
Anyway, I hope M&S will have its sale again soon..

I agree with Flex01. UK brands on franchise out here incur extra costs as compared with their UK counterparts. For example, they buy stock from the parent company, then pay to ship (if an Emirati company like M&S/Al Futtaim) to JAFZA/Dubai then pay to ship to Qatar, import charges, warehousing charges, then they need to make a profit on the products as well. Exchange rates have no bearing on us here - we earn in riyals and we spend in riyals so the current exchange rate is irrevelent. Freedom of choice is alwas there as a consumer: if you don't agree with the prices then shop somewhere else. We're lucky that at the moment loads of brands are panicking and slashing prices (particularly Alshaya brands) so bargains are there to be had.
conversion is applicable to those,, who have the option to buy it from london..Those,who are not travelling to london or cant afford to travel to UK/other countries, the conversion factor is not applicable.
Secondly, increasing prices by 50% and then reducing it, is not applicable to M& P and most other stores in Qartar as they actually reduce the price. i have never seen any incident in the last four years. I am a regular shopper/visitor to all the major stores. so i can vow for it.

Your points are correct, except that not everyone here earns in riyals.

alanisse ? have you ever checked their price tag in poundsterling and convert it to riyal and do the calculation?
Jackmohan that's not marks and spencer... they don't increase price for their products during sale s. prices is actually the real/regular price
Marks ex spensive
novita ....they increase the price by 50%....and then give a discount of 50%.....thats how it works 100% of the time.....
Nobody would sell anything off for a loss!!!
The "Sale" is usually a scam!
till when?

not much reduction. After 50 percents discount those prices just about the same with the price in the UK.
Paper Ad says 25%

Just got vouchers for there for my birthday! I'm off! Bye for now :)
