I was there yesterday, no increases on the products I purchased, but again, maybe there have been some on products I don't buy - and therefore doesn't affect me.

If people notice and are concerned about an 8% increase (about 13 - 15 QR - $4.00 on a box of beer), should they be shopping there in the first place?

By Raviraj1212• 15 Dec 2012 16:04

the news was true the price hike but only 7 to 8%..

I haven't been there for weeks but the last time I checked the price of the pork products was cheaper than it used to be.

Everything else that I regularly buy was the same price it had been for over a year, other than the special offers and discounts next to the front entrance.

Last year while I was in UAE, I bought 2 nepolian brandi for the price 45 QR. It was a special new year offer. Still I think one brandi is 40 Dh in UAE.

I didn't see any increase yesterday. All prices were the same as they have always been. I did not look at the price of wine or pork products, though. Booze is the same I can confirm.

Wrong info, It's not 30% but more or less 5% to 7% rise only. It took effect about two weeks ago.

marycatherine, they say in a last couple of days, not in a last couple of weeks :)

and if they did increase the prices, then they have to increase the limit too.. as with the same limit per month and higher prices, you can buy less..

Man I still remember what my biology teacher was once teaching fermentation, and one guy in our class said to him "sir according to this, it is very easy to make your own alcohol." Our teacher smiled and said "yes it doesn't take a genius to make alcohol, but people are too lazy. "

That's why more Qatari drinking liquor in Dubai. Almost all hotels in Dubai are serving liquor. Meats for non-muslims are easy to buy. I'm Arab I find Dubai is the most flexible country in the World they respect peoples religion and treating people as human being. Especially the Ruler and Royal families they so kind. No question how is UAE now.

I also was there in the last week and saw no increases in the products I was purchasing.

However, he may have been buying somethings I wasn't - hopefully that was the case, because that would mean what I regularly purchase hasn't gone up in price!

Hmm Bravo Tahsinmim

Another well thought out and measured response!

Marycatherine

No my friend has no official capacity he has merely seen the price increase when he went there a couple of days ago. I have no reason to doubt him, although I haven't been there myself recently to see with my own eyes

In this case I would be delighted to be wrong!

As usual you are talking rubbish!

"So all doctors get their medicine made from QDC"

If I told you that eating healthily and working out was good for you..

You would probably ask me if Doctors get their medicine made in "vegetable section" or the "Gym".

Do us a favour seeing as you are clearly against alcohol please spare us "bad" people from your religiously motivated drivel!

Good day sir!

Turbohasmster Forget that tommorow they say consuming too much meat is bad for health so they double the price of meat would Tahsnim like that ....??? Then they say there is too much pollution in Qatar due to many cars then they raise the price of fuel to 5 qrs per liter. Its all about the money...

This is shocking, in fact blashpemy against the great and the good. I know they have to pay for the 60% salary increase for Nationals somehow but this is not the way to do it. All joy will be removed from Qatar and National Day will fall flat without the social lubricant to make the party swing.

Moderate alcohol intake is recommended by many health professionals, as it has been shown to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease.

Smoking is the only legally available product I can think of that, when used as per the manufacturer's instructions, will cause harm and possibly death.

Strangely cigarettes are very cheap in this country, which does make you wonder why.

Tahsnim dont get me wrong i am not sure what your beliefs are, as an Economist and a realist i can forecast that the price increaase is bad for the society. Thats why its a black market its illegal but its thriving and now it will grow...

What a load of steaming bull poo!

Smoking is much much much worse for your health than drinking! And smoking is incredibly cheap in Qatar compared to Europe!

Even doctors will tell you a glass of wine a day is good for. And drinking in moderation has absolutely no affects on your health at all..

Its no different to Kharama hiking their prices for electricity by 30% overnight, wonder if you would be so cheerful then?

No?

Why not they are only trying to help save the planet! :-)
