Hummer: Vages wasn't asking how "The Mall" was, he was refering to Landmark as the mall.

And I described Landmark as the mall....people on here are so picky and precise...lol

By the way Mega Mart is a branch of Shoprite, which is located at the Airport road, whatever was sold at Mega mart is available at Shoprite.

It's always the small things that make big differences.

Vages its easy to get to Land mark, go from corniche. All u have to do is get to the post office round about and take the road opposite to the post office which leads to the back entrance of Khalifa tennis stadium, just keep going straight till u get to the immigrations office and as soon as u reach the Traffic Dept. take a right and u will get to land mark or atleast see it and u can figure out how to get there, I dont know if the roads there are still under construction or not, its been month's since i've been there.

I’m seriously, no seriously, annoyed and frustrated about the closing of Megamart.

Did someone wake up one morning and decide they didn’t want it open anymore….

The centre is appalling...can’t even compare the two and Carrefour is only good for some items. I agree, the dairy section is terrible, not to mention the rotten tomatoes and the 94 QR a kilo mushrooms (IT'S FUNGHI, HOW CAN IT BE 94 QR) from Holland. Oh, they are the only mushrooms you can buy. You can’t even buy ricotta cheese at Carrefour....that doesn’t matter because processed food comes in abundance!!

Megamart was the ONLY decent supermarket in Doha, so of course its gone....why wouldn’t it be....lol

Ok that’s enough ranting and raving for this evening…..night all!!

This is the kind of stupidity that rocks me. Are there no accountants in the country?

First Megamart and Carrefour serve different markets in my opinion. Megamart is a high value western niche market. Carrefour is French wal-mart, mostly garbage. For instance how can a French company have such terrible selection of cheese and dairy.

Second why bailout until you have squeezed every ounce of profit out of the local. Drive it into the ground before you bail if your a big scared baby, or just COMPETE with Carrefour and pimp slap them a bit.

Third the Center is the biggest pain in the ass to get to in Doha and its totally without parking.

I bet Carrefour just bribed someone.

Maybe not easy at The Centre but the Ramada Hotel is right next to it and probably very easy from there.

I decided not to go down to MegaMart in the pouring rain to take a picture of the last day of MegaMart. I'm not crying over MegaMart's disappearance. Now my wife will have to try harder to spend money on expensive groceries! ;)

Namabiru, Lawrence is a Philipino man wearing glasses who looks kinda European. I always see him walking up and down the cashier line -- helping cashiers or (seemingly) monitoring the situation.

Is this the last day for MegaMart? I'm gonna have to go down in the rain to take a picture with the family...of the store that was!

except the best products at Carrefour are the worst products at Walmart - the two don't even compare in my opinion

Carrefour really reminds me of Walmart in the States. Similar clientele...similar service... similar staff employed...similar type of discount product... as I said about the Indian car, things are cheap for a reason.

Lawrence... what does he look like? I might have seen him. Kind of 'European', with glasses? The manager I occasionally see working the register early in the morning?

At least he helped you on the Carrefour end. But helping you replace a card... to be honest, I wouldn't expect that.

So the date's actually the 13th, according to the signs in the shop.

According to what I've heard here, MM is closing due to the lease running out.

Which is a real shame. Landmark's shop is bigger than The Centre's, and parking is better. I enquired, and the foodstock will be split amongst 3 shops-- MM at The Centre, and two Shoprites. To be honest, I've not heard of Shoprite here... one's on Airport Road, the other I forget where I was told.

Lawrence is the cashier manager @ Carrefour, City Centre. He's quite a decent man. When a cashier cracked my visa card by swipping it too fast in the visa machine, he helped straighten our the cashier. He is supportive of customers. But he didn't help in any practical way (like getting my card replaced!) That was up to me: paying QNB extra fee to replace the card.

Has anyone else had any unfortunate events / horror stories @ Carrefour?

Why is Megamart being closed, many of us prefer it. I hate Carrefeur and the way they treat customers and the products they carry. Its time for some choices in the country, I think Landmark can have two grocers who is forcing Megamart OUT? We need customer service and products we want to buy.

shame

manager I disliked - a few times i saw him bawl out his staff on the shop floor.

esp a couple of female cashiers

his attitude disgusted me.

he should learn to treat folk respect and some real management skills

Holy pygmies, you're sure right about that. Now, Mega Mart is usually a bit pricier to begin with I've noticed, but... yeah, you can really see price increases in Doha in general. Where I notice them most, though, is appropriately in the produce section. Which makes sense, as we're out of season. But I've watched pineapple go from 5.50 to 6.50 to now 8.50 at Carrefour. Poor pineapple stand looks like a ghost town, one lonely cut pineapple which doesn't appear too appetizing...

See, I figured MM would stay at Landmark. They had certainly cleaned up, with putting in better lighting and were making more of an effort to sweep floors. It's too bad. Landmark would have been the best place to shop then, you woulda had MM and Carrefour in one go.

Megamart was expensive, especially in the last few weeks. I liked it because it granted me one or two items that are on sale back home. Ironically or coincidentally, depending where you sit, i did tell my wife yesterday that theres no way we can carry on paying some of those prices. 50% increases on some items in 7 days. At least now i know why...lol

Oh man, that really sucks. The landmark one was really close to my house, and had better parking than the Center IMHO.

I have no problem with closing Megamart. I only do marketing in Wholesale Market for cheep things. I am not highly paid catogory like you guys. I wish I can do shopping in C4 :(
