Can anyone tell me if people shop online in Doha or other parts of the country? A friend sells his products in stores in Qatar and is wondering if he should try and build a website for people to order online, too.
Thanks for your quick response and sorry not to be clearer - he currently sells consumer and business software through retailers in Qatar (not sure which ones). He sells in several countries around the globe and has added websites to help sell his products in certain countries, but wasn't sure if this option would be a worthwhile in Qatar.
I'm not sure if this business would pick up. It's a very small country, with no thriving local products made in Qatar, but a few. If I lived in Qatar I'd just go grab the commodity myself.
Why would someone outside Qatar want to order online from Qatar? You may have answers, I don't.

In this case your friend would need to think who his audience would be, and what would motivate them to order online from Qatar.
Consider these:
Geographically: Qatar is too small, so we will eliminate the distance and time factors.
GPS: locating a buyer may be a nightmare for the online vendor.
Wholesale: many firms may want to buy online and maybe your friend can think about system installation and configuration services too.
