There are other relgions apart from Islam ;) I thought i saw a book place in one of the malls with some stuff on. which religion/s are you interested in?
D ring road near The Mall, I'm hooked! I even got goose fat there for the best roasties! UK stuff galore apart from pepperamis and frazzles, unfortunately...
Pig ear chews for dogs - really???? where? never seen them. Have seen Irn Bru admittedly, but only very sporadically and you have to be quick before it gets snapped up by all the other hungover Scots!!
What amazes me most about this thread is the number of things people are mentioning that actually ARE available in Qatar. Just from page 2 of this thread;
- How about books, be it technical, leasure or other stuff. checked with Jarir few time and got tired of enquiring.
- Beauty / hair care is pathetic. 2 major shops Nazih on salwa road and the other shop on Al sadd road (opp royal plaza) do not have even basic equipment found in plenty back home.
Vegemite is available at megemart and shoprite in constant supply now..shoprite also do supply Arnotts chocolate biscuits but depending when you go is depending what they have at the moment they have the Madrin slices but also usually have Tim Tams and mint slices but they usually sell pretty fast...

Decent flour tortillas...found some once at Carrefours and put them in the freezer but they only last about 2 months in there...then they get all crispy yucky..
Benedryl...I bring my own from home. I find it really amuzing that you can buy STRONG prescription medications just right off the shelf in the pharmacies...but you can't purchase Neosporin cream without a prescription! Go figure...

House Blend Starbucks coffee. ANY Starbucks coffee that isn't "bold" or "extra bold." With all the Starbucks in Doha I'm gonna have to bring coffee from the US!
Hot English Mustard, Australian/NZ Marmite (the stuff you get here is just not the same) Red Rock Deli Chippies, Plain Jane shoes (without the stiletto heels, sparkles and bells) Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.
The perfume is from natural oils. It is soap, enzyme and phosphate free. Therefore it is suitable for sensitive skin. It was recommended to me by a Dermatologist.
I don't want scent free washing, I like my clothes to smell nice. I use Downy baby softener, it smells lovely.
The problem I find is not that I can't find things, but that if I find what I want, it is soooooooooo much more expensive! Like my Bold washing tablets :( they smell so nice.
Does anyone know where you can buy brown basmati rice?

to be quite heavily perfumed, which is awful for allergies. I find it odd that they market it as a "sensitive" (for skin/allergies) product.
When I found the *truly* scent-free Tide at MegaMart, i purchased all twelve bottles of it. I spent a small fortune that day, but hopefully I won't need to purchase it for at least a year or so! If I can get my housemaid to MEASURE it rather than freely pour it, then it should last a while.
Use Filetti washing powder instead, it is chemical free, even I don't get an allergic reaction to it. It is a German brand, I had never heard of it until I came here, it is designed for babies. It's in a pink bag in Landmark Carrefour. It works really well and smells lovely.
no self rising flour in carrfour or amira and pizza dough mix which comes in box in flour form and you kneed dough yourself any idea where can i find them? thanks
most stuff is not organic here and if it is its expensive..no fresh beans why eat out of can when u can have it fresh i have never seen Kale here and fresh spinach only when the moon is blue hhahaha
hour or so.I will look for hobnobs for ya Brit.......
And Tallg, those Ginsters cheese/onion pasties are superb.Used to be one of my staple foodstuffs when i was working on the Cranes back in the UK....Mmmmmmmn !
The things I miss most are real ale (bottled Speckled Hen & Spitfire doesn't count) and Ginsters cheese and onion pasties. My mother-in-law always has these waiting for me when we arrive at her house from the airport
ummjake - I think quite a few of the things you mentioned are available here, just not in the quantities you'd get back home. There are several craft shops and party shops that in my opinion adequately supply scrapbooking and birthday party supplies, and between the supermarkets and pet shops there's plenty of pet treats and toys. And there are so many shoe shops here that every taste is catered for - from plain jane to fancy dan!
The thing that annoys me more is when they do have something you like, and you buy it week in week out, then suddenly it disappears, never to return again!
Expat Sueño - M&S at Landmark do a "Sensitive" washing powder and softener. It's fragrance free on non-biological. Maybe that would do for what you need. We bought some ready to wash the baby clothes.
real vanilla, different kinds of chips for baking, drugstore brand make up (the kind you'd get in a Wal-Mart), decent shoes that aren't bedazzled or covered with crap, designer hair care products (Paul Mitchell, KMS, etc.), Cream of Wheat, Celestial Seasoning Teas, Packaged sauce/soup/gravy mixes, Altoids, sex toys (the Durex vibrating cock ring that tallg referred do just doesn't cut it, I'm afraid!), pre-cooked vacuum-packed bacon, Chinese hot mustard, over-the-counter medicines that I like from the States (Nyquil, Arthritis strength Tylenol, Excedrin Migraine, Visine allergy eye drops, etc.), BOOKS, cheap children's books and gifts, cheap but quality clothes, scrapbooking materials, birthday party supplies, anything holiday related, pet treats and toys and grooming/care supplies,...most you can order online if you have a credit card.
Every year it has gotten better here, but there is still a lot I can't find (consistently) in this country, which remains an annoyance.

campbell - you can definitely buy bibles in Qatar. Virgin stocks them. I'm intrigued to know why you thought you couldn't?
And you can bring bibles into the country with you, as long as they're for your personal use and you aren't planning to distribute them.
Islam doesn't forbid the practising of other religions. That's why they allowed a Catholic church to be built here.
