Hey Qatar - Is there interest in a used book store in Doha, primarily with English titles? Let me know as I am considering as a business/personal venture.

Wish we could put together a huge car boot sale for books. Just meet somewhere off in the sand on the side of the road. I'd be there with boxes. (mysteries) and ready to buy more.

In case people don't know about it, there's a great website called www.half.com that sells gently used books/DVDs/etc. for (generally) much cheaper prices than you'd find at amazon.com from third party merchants.

If you're a voracious reader and have a US billing/mailing address, check it out!

I have a few BOXES of books I've been looking to donate/sell/trade with someone else...have no place to take them. A used bookstore would be very popular with the expat community, less so with the locals but then they're not big readers for the most part anyway...

Keep us informed as your plans develop!

You should definitely have a children's section, too -- I could probably stock that section on my own for you -- LOL!

E-books more practical and cost effective for the customer but unfortunately, I'm old and not used to e-books. Read printed works better.

Book cafe good idea in terms of the lifestyle to which I'm accustomed to but maybe cost and other resources-wise business considerations - unwise. You could do like Jarir and Virgin Megastore - the bookstores are near to coffee outlets.

The reason why I'm not hanging out at Jarir or VMS is cos of the prices of the books. I probably also won't be having coffee while reading new-ish books immediately after buying - cos of the prices as well. I'll wait for a few months, go home and park myself in nearby bookstores with book cafes and have a life.

I used to use a store like that in Dubai, they had a system where the book you purchased already had a stamp in it, when you returned it you would get something like 5 dirhams back and could get it deducted from the price of another book, but you couldnt return 4 books in exchange for one book that cost say 20 dirhams. I used the store a lot and even just donated some of my own paperbacks rather than just giving them away to somebody who may never read them . I liked the thought that my old books could have a life after me . The shop was very busy.

if a library is included then a small cafe will be great.

I don't mean Starbucks or Costa but something unique.

I love your suggestion - if the titles are good and the prices are less than at Jarir /Virgin, will certainly be your customer.

Also can give you some books of my own for reselling .

Yes, used book store - great idea. Looking for a library here but none to speak of. And can't join the book swap club cos I have very few books with me here.
