Weekend late night shopping payment problem

I experienced twice (home center and carrefour) and observed many that during late night weekend - around 9-10 PM - payment using debit/credit card were declined. Seems that communication line was congested by the sudden surge of payment made. What even worse is withdrawing from ATM is likely to fail, again due to congested communication line. Just this weekend I saw a qatari couple in Landmark Carrefour having problems with payment using debit card. A trolley full of stocks has been handed over but card failed even after several attemps. When the husband tried to withdraw from ATM, he came back without success. He eventually to return all those stocks. I wish I carried enough cash to lend them.

Moral story: prepare cash if you are planning to shop and make payment during late night shopping during weekend.Avoid using debit/credit card for weekend late night shopping payment. Just in case.

That's good to hear. I was mortified with embarrasment when my QNB debit card was declined twice at Kahramaa in City Center. A friend came to my aid and used his Doha bank debit card without any problems. My card worked later that night when paying for dinner outside City Center.

I would happily have paid cash, but Kahramaa only accept electronic payments at their little booth, so I was a tad screwed!

We had a the same issue, we were in Answar Gallery and after 3 hours of hunting for various dress for my little daughter and filling the trolly with all her favourit things, we ended up with no dial tone.

Finally we had to get the cash from QNB using counter cheque and pay for our shopping.

At times, traditional banking systems works better...
