Carrefour is good for easy access but Carrefour fruit and veg sometimes looks like it has been collected from the dump especially at the weekends.FFC have much better quality fresh produce but their parking and access to their stores is difficult.

Lulu in Gharaffa is good but I wouldn't use the downtown one as it's always so crowded.

Best - FFC - Airport.

Reasons:

1. Best Quality Bakery Stuff.

2. Huge Parking Ground. Unlike Luluhyper there is no Pavement so people can criss-cross & escape thus no traffic jams at parking.

3. New Sandwich & Milkshake counter.....at the entrance.

Best Service is provided by Qatar Shopping Complex, TV-Roundabout. The guys are very attentive to any requests etc....

Try to put air in your tires in a petrol station...

Our make a repair on the tire wall...

Send package to a unusual country in General Post office, our buy a envelope in same place...

Replace a cola by a bottle of water in fast food place...

Have a document copied in the places you really need the copy's.

Respect speed limit with someone in your back....

Buy a Traffic code book in a Driving School...

Order entry and main dish and receive it in same order...

Find a taxi that really know the place you want to go...

Have a fair rent for the place you live in...

and so one....

Qatar is great!

Some more, it also pis*es me off that they sell a Zippo lighter but they don't have flint stones or gas. Amateurs.

All malls are pure rubbish. I can't find Gitanes. Sometimes there is French butter, sometimes there is not. They are absolutely unprofessional in terms of keeping their products available. It is pis*ing me off that I can buy something this week, but next week it's not available.

LULU drives me sick, everything inside is a nightmare, from the product to everybody, never saw a normal person there.

Is better go to small magazines, even petrol stations and bring the vital

If you are looking for electronics, try EMax at centerpoint, al sadd. Like Dubai has many dedicated electronic stores, EMax is one of them. Advantage is you get technical advice & can compare the products before buying. - good ambience & customer service.

LuLu bread is by far the best in Doha (although the price has risen from QR3 to QR5). The security guard and staff are rude. Some of them need drop-kicks! I like to go there and see other shoppers in their bright and colourful clothes...I think they are mostly Indians and others from west Asia. The children are especially cut in their colorful & fancy dresses.

The Supermarket at the centre was okay, I found lots of UK branded products, even some I struggle to find in the UK. Made me feel right at home.

Carrefour..

yeah I admit Lulu cashiers/counters are quite annoying sometimes..

I never let them pack my groceries I help them usually..

I hate lulu, it is the sickest place to do any shopping. i would rather go without it than go to lulu. most unfriendly. ffc is good for regular stuff & the bread at opera is good. mega mart ...yes a little exp but its nice, they have some stuff u wont get elsewhere.

i totally agree! those filipina sales clers there are so annoyingly stupid & arrogant! especially that poweder-faced filipina lady at the customer service.

I like some Carrefour French products

I like the bakery at FFC

Some Mega mart luxuries... but dont' like the bakery section now.

loaves are too crumbly and sausage rolls too salty

but I detest big smelly Lulu it is awful.

By anonymous• 4 Dec 2007 11:14

i used to like carrefour ..but now noway.. all most all of their shelves are filled with un-branded products now ..especially in electronics .. and most of the products now are made by them itself ..

so all in all they are simply fooling the people by giving the lable that they are cheapest in the market, infact they are cheaper only in product quality but not in price ...

I love carrefour products, which of course can only be found there. Megamart for Oscar Mayer saussages, which is the only kind that my daughter eats and Turron, cos I can't find it anywhere else. Giant is never too crowded, and they sell a lasagna that I can't find in any other supermarket.

By jasminejasmine• 4 Dec 2007 10:52

That sums up what we do too! MegaMart is a luxury shop for us but great for Christmas stuff and free range eggs. Get your bread in Pauls at Villagio, PROPER french bread, about 7qr a loaf, worth every cent.

By tallg• 4 Dec 2007 10:48
tallg

We tend to use Carrefour for the normal weekly shop as we find it's the most pleasant to shop in - wide ailses, well it, reasonable well organised and not too crowded if you go at the right time. The one downside is their bread is rubbish (surprising for a French company!).

Then we go to Mega-mart for the bits and bobs Carrefour doesn't stock, and when we fancy a few luxuries!

I really like MegaMart at Landmark, the staff are all really nice and the guys on the meat counter know what they are doing and will prepare meat for you. It is by no means the cheapest though. Carrefour is good value, has good selections and friendly staff but the lighting is too bright and it's always too hot in there. Also, there is always a scrum around the electronics department, makes it hard to get served when it's busy. Giant has the freshest produce and is the best value and is rarely busy but not such a good selection of international foods. I agree about Lulu and also it's too cold in there-wear a coat if going!

By herne• 4 Dec 2007 10:32
herne

I personally believe (hehe - it's from miss teen South Carolina) that the best supermaret is Carrefour. I also like Landmark Q-Mart, and Family Food Center. But hate Lulu. All the unfriendly people are collected there in one place, whether workers or customers.
