Previous answers have given you a taste of the problems here.

I suggest you and your husband go back to the recruiter or employer and ask them about the availability of good education here.

Has the employer got reserved places at any of the good schools? If not, what is the situation regarding getting you child into a school - ANY SCHOOL - in Doha.

A British colleague has been trying to get a place for his 8 year old since June. He has been told to try next year [i.e school year 2009 -2010] as even the waiting lists are closed.

You should get this squared away before you leave America, in my view.

Hi

I am a teacher here in Doha. I have 15 years experience in teaching and have been in four international schools. I do not teach at ASD but by reputation it is very good. I teach at Qatar Academy which is (I think, at least!) the best school here. It is an IB world school. Both my sons are here and are receiving a most fantastic education. One is in Pre-4 and is adopted. He is receiving superb ESL support. My other son (KG) has an extremely high IQ and is benefitting from some excellent pull-out arrangements.

School places are hard to get in both schools. ASD is great, but if you can't find a place consider QA - they are most certainly the pick of the bunch.

Very best wishes.

do you already have admission for your son? It is hard to get in- long waiting lists.
