English Speaking Schools - Is it possible to get a place at all?

I am relocating to Doha on Monday, and my family will follow from Blighty once schooling is available. Naively we thought we might get a place in year two from April for the summer term, thus having continuity into year three. Apparently not. Quite a blow. Is it a case of applying at every school and hoping for the best outcome with a view to a September admission? Any advice would be very gratefully received.

We had to place our kids in the only school we could get a place in while we were wait-listed at our preferred schools. We heard things like "200 on the waiting list" etc, but we did get offered places after one term. We had other options for different in kids in different schools but took the interim option so we could at least have them in the same school.
I have heard that some companies have "reserved" places at schools so check with your employer.

I am afraid it is quite bad with schooling here. You should have started applying well before you got here and at least you would have lined up a few places to choose from.
Schools here are money making entities and will offer you a place once their is one available at a particular school.
Yes I am afraid you have to apply to many schools to see which ones might have an opening. Good Luck mate and I hope you guys fins a decent school for the spring term.
