Write a speech where you use simple language. Complicated words make the audience as well as your life difficult. Learn the speech well and practice it over and over again. The stronger your command over the text , the less likely you are to mess it up. Lastly think of the audience as your friends rather than critics and relax. best of luck.

Be prepared and think of yourself as the best speaker in the crowd, most importantly, enjoy the moment of speaking in front of the crowd.

if you have something important to say, you know what that is and your sincerity will convey what you mean. If you want to talk platitudes, you can learn that, but who will believe what you say?

don't get too engrossed in your notes, a little eye contact goes a long way.

watch what you are doing with your hands; use them to emphasise certain points but when you are done, put them by your side or in front of you...not in your pockets or arms folded (this makes you look nervous, and as if you are clinging onto your body for dear life!)

take deep breaths, and know what you are talking about, but don't be thrown if you miss a word or make a mistake!

and the most important thing is, not everyone will listen to every word :-) so make sure you say your key points or focus -words in a different tone or volume, so that if it is a long speech certain elements stand out.

smile, be confident, and talk at an even pace.

too slow? people will get bored.

too fast? it will look like you're trying to get the hell off the stage!

good luck
