Sorry the parks are geared towards families but not to single males in fact they are often specifically excluded from "family" parks but also "family" day at shopping venues. Western men are never stopped (I've never known one in 12 years) but men unaccompanied by families from Asia and India are often turned away.

"My lifestyle involves more "mundane" activities like cinema, bowling, mini golf, parks, restaurants, galleries, museums, long drives and the like"

You're even more limited then. Mini golf does not exist in Qatar to my knowledge, if there is a cinema in Messaid it will probably be showing the latest Bollywood spectacle, there are some parks, but not like we're used to in the West (well manicured, but not open to things like sport or families - or sometimes single men for that matter) restaurants will be limited to the popular western fast food icons and small Indian and GCC food spots, which can be remarkably good and good value. I doubt if there's a museum - there are only a few in Doha, and Qatar as a country does not lend itself to long drives except in traffic.

Thanks you for the information.

Not into the drinking/clubbing scene. My lifestyle involves more "mundane" activities like cinema, bowling, mini golf, parks, restaurants, galleries, museums, long drives and the like.

Also is there any job security or is that a concept that does not exist yet?

First be aware that the word international is used liberally everywhere in the GCC. Are the students international? Sure, but not from all parts of the globe.

Messaid is not bad, it's an industrial town (chemical plants etc) it's about 30 - 40 minutes drive to Doha. I believe there is a bus service but I don't know anyone personally who uses the buses on a regular basis.

If your life style includes bars/clubs on the weekends, Messaid is not for you (and some would say Doha is not the place for you).

Not knowing your life style requirements or social needs, can't comment further except to say unless you have your own transport you might find it very confining.

On the upside, you're close to Sealine Resort, but if you want to use resort facilities that costs money, otherwise you may be dodging 4WDs on more public areas.
