Teaching in Qatar

Can anyone let me know what it is like to teach in Qatar? What is the process like for work permits? Can the schools start processing the applications before getting to Qatar? So many questions, I know but I have heard a few situations in which people have gone there with an offer for a job and than there was no job when they arrived. Or, their degrees where declined by the Ministry of Education.

Thanks in advance for any advice

The school will sponsor you once they have accepted you for a post. Unfortunately you will not be able to leave the country without the permission of your sponsor. This means that if you don't like the the job and want to leave you will need the cooperation of the school who at that time may be desperate to keep you on. I've met a teacher who was not allowed to leave at the end of last year and she will have to work another year before her school agrees to let her go.

Also try Newton International School, I'm pretty sure they're looking for staff and I've heard they pay well

Hi Robin,\

I work at the Gulf English School and its great. Really good staff and package. You should get into it! I am sure they would do a skype video interview if you explained to them your situation. Any questions give me an email, i seem to have a lot of general knowledge of how things work around here,

Good luck, and I hope things work out

I would also include Doha Montesorri & British School on your list to send your CV to.

All the schools u mentioned are pretty decent schools. I was teaching myself in Qatar for about a yr or 2 in Cambridge International School of Doha. Might want to try that as well. These schools offer pretty decent packages thats if your sponsored by them. However, if your not sponsored by the school itself, they usually end up offering you the local package, which is quite low. I'd try Canadian College of North Atlantic. Its a Canadian Based College from Nova Scotia(I think) but majority of their employees are Canadian and they give first preference to us as well.

Thanks for the info, I sent my C.V. to the American school but just waiting to hear back.

I also received an email and info. package from Al Khor Int'l School and Gulf English School, which is interviewing in London. Unfortunately we are living in Thailand right now and can not attend the job fair there.

I've sent as well to: Park House English School, Qatar Academy, Qatar Int'l, Middle East Int'l, Al Jazeer Academy, Doha English Speaking School.

Any comment on these ones?

If you do your homework and get an offer from a good school here in Doha there should be no problem. There are many excellent institutions, among them several colleges from Canada. Make sure you have access to your work and educational history available in verifiable form and you won't go wrong.

hey

teaching jobs in doha suck...esp if u are an indian....

if its an indian school that you are talkin abt...they do recieve applications in india ...online or thru placement drives... but take my word - not worth it.

shit work environment - shit colleagues ...and even shit pay ---

ur much better off in india...or better still say good bye to the teaching prof and take up somethn els....

but if u still wanna teach in doha.... join any school but an indian one. some of the ones to avoid (BPS, DMIS, IES, MES, DPS )

hope it was useful
