Biz leaders give ‘thumbs up’ to ‘Gibo’s’ platform

Business leaders belonging to the Wallace Business Forum Friday gave a “thumbs up” sign to Lakas-Kampi-CMD presidential candidate Gilberto “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. after they were impressed by his platform of government, particularly on issues that deal with the economy and national security.
In an interview following the Wallace Business Forum Quarterly Round Table Meeting held at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel in Makati City, economist Peter Wallace also gave a “very satisfactory” rating for Teodoro when he laid his economic programs before chief executives of multinational companies, Filipino-owned corporations and diplomatic corps.
“He obviously understands the issues very well. I think the various questions being raised to him concern the business community, and it seems he understands and I think in his mind he has come up with arguments and reassurances that I think reassure us,” Wallace added.
Teodoro, a Bar top notcher and Harvard-trained lawyer, discussed his platform of governance before the country’s influential business leader in an extemporaneous manner for more than two hours with topics ranging from health, national security, peace talks to taxation.
Teodoro assured them of transparency in government transactions, if elected President.
He also said that he will initiate giving incentives to government people who would do exemplary service, particularly local executives, to prevent them from engaging in corrupt activities.
“We will seriously observe transparency in all transactions in government to address the corruption problem,” said Teodoro who admitted that businessmen were victimized by extortion while doing legitimate businesses in the country.
Teodoro also discussed how to deal internal security threats through beefing up police and military capabilities and proposing on how to develop the country by pushing for the construction of major infrastructure projects in rural areas to ensure that people in the countryside will feel the economic growth.
Being a former defense chief, Teodoro said that he believes that the military is not designed to assume counter insurgency operation and that the problem should be left to the police to confront..
