‘Smart radars’ on the way

The Traffic Department is finalizing arrangements for installing “smart radars” in different locations in Doha and its outskirts, according to reports published in the local Arabic press. Smart radars can calculate the speed of a vehicle between two given points.
Brigadier Maarafi said the department’s plans to introduce the point-to-point ‘smart radars’ is fast progressing. The intention is to monitor motorists who tend to accelerate the speed in between two radar points. The ‘smart radars’ is capable of calculating the time crossed by a particular motorist from one point to another, he said.
The department is already using mobile radars to control the speed of vehicles plying on Doha roads where there are no fixed radars. Twelve radars have already installed in tunnels to check the growing number of accidents in the tunnels.
The department is also getting ready for the 26th annual GCC Traffic Week due to be held in March under the motto: “Beware of mistakes by other motorists”.
