DOHA: The Ministry of Labour has set up a hotline (4406346) for workers to lodge complaints in the event of their employers laying them off in the wake of the global financial turbulence. Workers can access the hotline directly.
According to Ministry officials, there have so far been no complaints against any company either on retrenching workers or serving lay-off notices due to the recession pressure. The recession has had no impact at all on the local job market and the influx of foreign workers into the country continues.
The Ministry has, meanwhile, warned companies not to deliberately delay paying their workers. Companies delaying salary payments for more than two months will be taken to task.
Companies are also required to pick their workers when they arrive at the Doha International Airport.
