DOHA: The stage is set for the 1st Invitational Volleyball Tournament, dubbed ‘Hataw Na’. The event will start on September 3, the Volleyball Officiating Club (VOC) has announced.

The tournament which had been in hiatus for the last three years was revived after VOC meeting attended by team managers, team coaches and team coordinators on Monday at the ASD Gym.

VOC officials said participating teams have already shown great interests to be back in action again during the opening of the tournament on September 3.

“Get involved, keep the ball flying,” said one of the officials.

VOC Chairman Erick Cruz said that the tournament is unique as this has been energised and organised by a group of personalities who specialize in officiating the games at the highest level.

“The organisers are not playing members of any participating team, thus VOC is focused on the management, administration to stage a smooth invitational volleyball tournament,” he said yesterday.

To further strengthen VOC’s capabilities, the organisation has coordinated its sports plans and activities with the Qatar Volleyball Association (QVBA).

Already, the volleyball tournament had drawn the support of Sports Corners, McDonalds Qatar and Sony Ericson and its community partners like American School of Doha (ASD), Beats & Bytes Production, Beats and Bytes Dancers and Doha Pinoy Shooters Club (DPSC).
