Anti Rabies shots for humans

This being a Muslim country, they wanted you to have Anti Rabbis shots .. :O)

You say in the 90's... hmmm.. that might be it... I have heard others saying how horrible the rabies "treatments" are and I really have no idea why, cause mine was painless, and I am terrified of needles;-P

"Treatments" might have changed over the course of years - mine was in 2008.

Xena; I don't know. Were you ever vaccinated before you were bitten? My incident happened in Canada in the 90's. Maybe things have changed since then?

and I was bitten by a stray dog that QAWS had been called out to rescue...

So would have thought it would have been the same treatment..."post-exposure"

Xena; you had a preventative vaccination, and I had a post-exposure vaccination, which is probably why the two procedures are different. Did I mention that I was bitten by a bat?

Have heard about them giving them in the stomach, but since found out that is only if you actually contracted Rabies...hmmmm

In my case I was given a shot of rabies immune globulin (in the butt muscle) and then 4 shots of vaccine (in the arm), first shot immediately, second shot 3 days later, third shot a week later, and fourth shot 2 weeks later.

My butt was sore for at least a week after, and each time I had a shot in my arm it became sore, swollen and itchy.

what isn't pleasant about the rabies shots?

Its 7 vaccine shots in your arm over a period of a month - what was the problem with yours?

I didn't have any issues with it.... actually thought it was quite unneccessary, but did it anyway, and now I am quite happy, cause if we do come accross any rabies cases (never happened yet) I am protected.

I was bitten by a BAT in late 1999 and had to go through the whole rabies shots routine. It was not pleasant :s

I had mine two years ago, and they were all free - had a course of 7 too:-)
