Bringing in movies
By craiger125 •
Hello everyone,
Some of you may have seen my other posts. Basically a canuck with many questions! This one is for my wife, really. We have some movies and TV shows burned off here (read: Torrents we've burned). None of them are provocative or inappropriate, just TV shows like Jericho or Stargate and your average movies like Saving Private Ryan or what-not. We're just wondering if bringing them would pose any problem, what with them being burned, and not in store-bought cases and such.
Thanks for your help!
Bringing in movies shouldn't be a problem, if they are traveling with you. I brought over about 60 movies in my luggage and no problem. I am also subscribe to Netflix and have them sent over from the States. I haven't had a problem getting anything over so far, but it has only been about a month.
I have to mention specifically, although you might not get caught.
If you do get caught you could be prosecuted, your goods seized and the worst possible result is that if they feel that it was your intention to keep 'importing' pirated goods, then you could be sent back to your country.
Qatar has been criticized as being too relaxed with their effort to combat piracy, so since 2003, they have become much more stricter.
(Especially since the Copyright handeling center now acts independantly and does not need permission from the Ministry)

Craiger125,
If you are brining in a few movies - I dont think that it should be a problem. But if you are getting some thing like a 50 or 100 cds- you might get in trouble. Each time I travel - I get back around 10-20 Cd - never had any issues yet.
And yes - if your wife does get some really good TV shows - share it with us :-)
