Cancellation Charges for Qatar Airways

I had booked 3 return tickets during the 1st week of May 2011 to travel to India. The total ticket price was QR.6350. Later after 2 days I lost my job and so I cancelled my ticket. When I called Qatar Airways & cancelled the tickets, they claimed QR.500 for each ticket as cancellation charges and now I can get only QR.4850.
I am totally shocked by the cancellation charges. Does anyone have any experience like this with Qatar Airways?

Huh, i think ignorance is no defence in law. Sure he did not anticipate cancellation as at the point of purchase. I have never had to, so just learning theses rules too. But i know surely, some charges should apply.

If you were not advised on the cancellation penalty rules when you issued the ticket or when they quoted you the fare, you dont need to pay that.

Yes. The cheapest (Economy Value) tickets have the highest cancellation charges (QR 485+). More expensive tickets like the economy - flexi, 6 mnths validity, 9 mnths etc have lower cancellation and zero charges for date change.

lower fares has higher cancelation charges, some type of tickets are even non-refundable. you must have read or ask the cancellation polidies before issuing your tickets. these charges are normal, 500 QAR is normal refund charge for Qatar Airways lower fare tickets.

should have read the rules before booking. QA charges 500 QR for a cancellation while Emirates charges 100.

it's not when u book. it is when u cancel versus the flight date. if ur flight date is less than 2 weeks ahead when u cancel, it's normal. otherwise, usually no charges.
