Chest/Heart Pain Anyone?
By selwardman4 •
Good Day All
Have any of you experienced tight chest pain since being here? I have been here 3 months & work in Ras Laffan City.(Maybe thats what it is) Went to Hamad and all they gave were muscle relaxant tablets.
Also, working here in Ras Laffan, many workers die suddenly, presumable Heart Attack. I dont believe that the autopsy gives the true report. Just the other day, a 38 yr old man died, in his bed at camp. They are too young to die from Heart Failure. So sad that no one can find the root cause of this.
You can't teach experience...
I get very mild pains sometimes....But i ignore them... If i am going to die, i might as well die without getting tensed about it, by not knowing about it....lol...
MOST OF THIS CASE IS ONLY DUE TO GASTRIC PROBLEMS. EASTING TOO MUCH SPICY, COFFE,SMOKING ETC. WILL GET THIS TYPE OF PROBLEMS. HOWEVER I THINK BETTER YOU CAN GET A DETAILED CHECK UP. IF YOU PAY APPOLLO 950 THE CHECK UP IS FREE FOR ONE YEAR (I AM NOT SURE THE SCHEME IS AVAILABLE NOW). OR YOU CAN TAKE PRIVATE APPOINTMENT IN CARDIOLOGY SCETION. FOR THAT FROM HEALTH CENTER YOU SHOULD GET A REFERRAL LETTER FROM THE DOCTOR. BY PAYING 100 RIYALS YOU CAN GET THE TEST. THE MEDICINE IS FREE.
BETTER DO SOME LIGHT EXERCISE TOO DAILY LIKE CYCLING, WALKING ETC.
IF YOU DO TMT TEST IT IS BETTER EVEN CARDIOLOGY SOME TIME IT WON'T SHOW.
Drink 12 glasses or more of water in this place. Ras Laffan mini-ads says it.
"Everything in this book may be wrong." Illusions: The Adventures of The Reluctant Messiah by Richard Bach
are not always the symptom. I always got a pain in the back between the shoulder blades.
Are you sure your chest pain is not Heartburn?
Get tested for H pylori.
I don't want to sound callous but why would you read about someone having a heart attack. I have had 11 or 12 heart attacks since I was 39, 4 angioplasties and 1 quadruple by-pass later and I'm still kicking ( I think). If you are concerned maybe you should get a 2nd opinion although I do realize QL is much cheaper than a doctor and the medical advice is great.
Oh yeah I never made the paper either.
He who dies with the most toys wins.
RocknRoll. That's an excellent point, because though QP insist on an ECG of all potential employees before their arrival in Qatar, QP do not follow up and do not require further regular ECG's of their employees for the duration of their employment.
an isolated ECG does not tell anything. The doctors use the ECG by comparing the changes in it from previous records.
ECG is a useful tool when your GP orders one periodically and then keeps them on records to use when assessing cardiac health.
I wonder how many of these "sudden deaths" smoked.
I was on 80 a day in Qatar for at least 12 years plus at least a case of dark rum a month.
A series of seven heart attacks stopped me smoking and bypass followed. Haven't touched fag since.
Diabetis is also a significant factor in heart attacks (I was diagnosed diabetic whilst in Qatar).
There are relaxation tapes available (probably on line).
I was given one in the UK in 1999 by my cardiac nurse and still use it regularly. Gives me a full and undisturbed deep sleep.
im having chest pains since last week... mild though but im getting nervous about it...
Good and helpful information, ranishkt!
Mandi
Overlook.. you are right, its possible .. i was referin to the Qatar routine medical tests for RP.
cheers
An ECG is mandatory for all potential QP employees. It may show no problems on your arrival, but after a few weeks or months of inhaling leaded petrol fumes, dust and who knows (or cares) what else, it IS going to affect your health.
Something worth knowing
STROKE: Remember The 1st Three Letters... S.T.R.
My friend sent this to me and encouraged me to post it and spread the word. I agree. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.
STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. (they offered to call ambulance)
They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00pm , Ingrid passed away.)
She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today.
Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this...
STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Remember the "3" steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster.
The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:
S * Ask the individual to SMILE .
T * = TALK. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (eg "It is sunny out today").
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS .
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call the doctor immediately!! and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
NOTE : Another 'sign' of a stroke is
1. Ask the person to 'stick' out their tongue.
2. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.
A prominent cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail should send it to as many people, it can ; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.
….and it could be your own…..
Ok, we're down to "a few" now. That sounds more reasonable!
Selward.. A medical check usually is done with a blood check and Xray. They dont check how good the heart is.
It's the heavy industrial pollution, particularly in Ras Laffan & Messaieed, plus the perrenial dust problem in Qatar that causes these problems.
There is basically nothing wrong with most of these people, they are simply being poisioned by the air that they breathe.
Same thing applies in many parts of KSA, particularly in the Eastern province (Al Jubail etc.)
Just ask anyone who has worked there...
"letting go doesn't mean ur weak, only shows you're stronger to let go"
We dont hear of the other guys, from other projects in Ras Laffan who die suddenly (and believe me there are a few), from this company - 4 since my husband started which was 7 months ago. All - Heart Attack. All - were passed Medical Tests and were declared fit for work.

contributing causes for stress. In addition to this, Western expats also face exposure to germs which they have not been exposed to before and have no immunity against.
Take care.

You can't teach experience...
I had too during ma gym..rushed to hamad..BP found high at 199/130 ..ecg, eco all showed normal..
Last year I lost ma friend who was just 38 too.. who was at shower after his usual morning jogging.
Goodness! Well it certainly could be muscle strain or anxiety but I sure hope they gave you an EKG and drew some blood. Did the meds seem to work? I see you are young, but if the symptoms persist, please follow up.

he died in heart attack...

Yes, i had similar kind of pain, after certain medical test it was found that I have high level of acidity and inflammation in my chest due to which i was having chest pain ...
I was put on medication and now i am fine and feeling much better :-)
I advise you to better have a complete medical checkup.
Rest, Life is in God's Hands .... Death is just an excuse :-)
