DANGER AT ATMS...
By ringohiqups •
hi all, this is a warning to you all to be careful at atms now in qatar. few days ago a friend of mine was withdrawing some money at an atm in the souqs when his card was seazed by the atm. couldnt get it out,so he left the souq and in the morning reported the incident to his bank. anyway he checked his account and someone had withdrawn 17 thousand riyals from his account the night before. apparently it has happened to a number of pple now, so be aware of dangerous gangs lurking at ATMS, especially at night.
Novita, they will not come to the ATM and return your card, but they can suspend your card until you re-activate to ensure there are no fraudulant withdraws. They can confirm on the telephone if your card has indeed been seized by the bank or if the machine is faulty. If it is seized by the bank for incorrect pin or waiting too long to take your card out after your transaction etc. the bank will not come to the machine as this is routine. If they find the machine was tampered with (if the transaction is logged as normal and the card is stuck) they will come, but not quickly and you have to stay there with your card.

There is usually a number to call posted on the ATM, call that number and don't leave the ATM. Worst to worst cancel your card immediately!!"
----> Did it before with Doha bank. We going on hols on the same night. The ATM took our card ... we call the number, waiting and waiting and waiting. And of course waiting again ... call them ... they said on the way ... And waiting again. In the end we just given up and left ! THEY NEVER COME !!!!
It happened from time to time at home (fortunately not yet to me).
It is not surprising, scam "technology and knowledge" jumps from country to country faster than nothing...
I guess if they do some kind of international conventions from time to time...

Try to check if the atm slot looks weird, coz they install something that will look like a crad slot but actually stoling your card details.
Also, there have been fraud cased when some culprit put a cam (that does not resemble a cam at all) and they can copy all the details of your card, and of course your ATM pin. They can view the cam from a nearby vehicle. Out of these info, they are going to create a card that bears all your details and use your pin. I dont exactly know how they do thecard it but this was one tip during my training in ATM fraud back home.

Everything happens for a
reason.
better be careful next time, be aware of surroundings, esp the atm machine itself, before putting the card in, be sure to check if there's some discrepancy on it, check the card slot if it's embossed or the key pad if it's above the normal level, coz some people make have put gadgets on it to read data in your card and to get your number.
so always be aware, check first if found unusual things go to other machines coz even if there's some cameras, such times it isn't working or been purposely damage.
and if does happened, call emergency numbers of your bank to make it freeze or something before leaving the atm.
coz it's your hard earned money after all... ^_^
Binu, they could draw out 9000 before midnight and another 9000 right after.
DAvid is right, there is an emergency number. I was using the bank machine and the friggin thing lost power with my card in it. I called the number without leaving the machine and they said the machine turned off because I chose current when my account was savings. wt...? whatever.
The stopped all transactions on my account until I came and picked up the card from the bank.

please not that one account only withdraw qr. 9000 only in one day is correct then how they get 17000 qr. this report totaly wrong
Guess almost every bank has CCTV camera pointed at ATM machines.. you have fair chance of recovering your money and getting culprits arrested if u only use ATMs with cctv cam monitoring it.

That happened to my husband without any error report at QNB city center branch, but fortunately they issued an emergency ATM at the same time and cancelled the previous one.

guys it has happened to me 2 b4, your card is not seazed by the atm, but a pin that the gang put in the slot. you put your card in, the pin then stops your card from coming back out , so when you leave , they take the pin out and then you card too and do what they like afterwards.
There is usually a number to call posted on the ATM, call that number and don't leave the ATM. Worst to worst cancel your card immediately!!
What does a "dangerous gang" have to do with an atm taking your card?!
Allow me to clear this up for you. When several knife carrying fellas say "give up the card" -- that's a dangerous gang.
When someone gets ahold of your card and steals some money, that's bank fraud.
Any questions?
so what to do at the point when your card is seazed?

it happened to me before, so i know what you mean.. thats really bad..
