AS normal i wud change the boot device.then i wud insert the disk.rest like all the same i wud follow instructions.but at the tym to select which drive to install.sometyms only 1 drive would shown but in most cases i could select drive and format after that they wont let u a chance to choose another drive to format they would continue installation.now seriously is there any way to format from within the currently installed windows.or say me any other way to completely format and then install a windows.....
Thats what I m trying to tell you. Go install XP from the boot menu so that you can format your Primary WIndows Drive ( mostly C:/) because you cant format it from within the windows environment because all the files are being used. After you format your C: drive and install XP, you can format the other drives just by right clicking them from My Computer and choosing the format option.
You can format all the available drives/partitions in your hard disk. when installing xp, you can select which drive is to be formatted before installation continues. After formatting the first drive/partition, do not continue the installation first but rather, select the other drive to be formatted. You can even remove those partitions if you like and make your hard drive into one partition only. You cannot format all the available drives simultaneously.
Just pop the Windows XP Disc in. Make sure your boot order allows CD-Rom to come before the hard drive.
Then " Press any Key to Continue.." when prompted. Let the Setup files be loaded and choose your installation partition.
Always make a backup of your drivers! VERY IMPORTANT! I recomend a program called Driver Max. Just backup using that software and in the new xp installation, just restore it. Really helpful.
After you have your Windows XP installed, just right click the other partition and click FORMAT!
dude i did format many pc still once you open ur windows you cannot format a drive from within it.they would not allow.now is there any possiblity to format before logging into windows.i mean on the boot screen.thats the black coloured screen??.please reply.and wen i format with xp cd.u cannot fully format.2 drives only 1 drive.but its possible with sp3.and vista and even windows 7
When you install Windows XP from the CD you will be asked on which partition you want to install it. Chose the C: partition and chose 'format'. Let Windows format NTFS (Quick format). After you've installed Windows XP, right click on the D: drive icon and chose 'format'. Chose NTFS file system and 'Quick Format'.
