Hairdressers for Afro caribbean women and how to find other Caribbean people
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum. I have been offered a job in Qatar. I need to know if there are good hairdressers there that can relax my thick shoulder length afro caribbean hair. Also how much does that cost and what is the cost of washing and setting? I usually go to a hairdresser every 2 weeks so finding a hairdresser is essential for me.
I would also like to know if there are other people from the Caribbean living in Qatar? If so I would really like to communicate with you.
Thanks to all.
Precious.
you can try Wedyan Saloon, or Al samra Al afriqya
or you can just hire a miad like the folks said
ethiopians are really good
Hey precious, I am from Panama!!! We have wonderful Carnivals too, and the soca, salsa, and merengue is fantastic! Be sure to stay in touch!
Although there are a couple of people who have said that they have found someone. I need to get my hair relaxed and might just have another QLer relax it for me and vice versa. That situation isn't ideal, but you do what you can. Apparently there are places to get your hair braided though.
It's getting close to my relocation time. Have you been successful in finding a hairdresser who can relax your hair? Let me know.
Thanks.
Precious
Although I'm not Afro-Caribbean, I do need to find a hair dresser that would be able to relax my hair. Although you have mentioned some prices, what are good places to go to get a touch-up? And going the whole maid route isn't going to work for me.
Precious.
The fingures mentioned are in QR.
You can hire an Ethiopian maid for 550 to 600 QRs.
You are welcome.
Wow a maid who can do my hair! I never would have thought of that. It would definitely save me from wasting time sitting in a hair dressing salon. How much does one pay a maid? I don't think I will need a maid for more than one day a week. Also when you say cost of hairdressers vary from $20 to $400 are you referring to Qatari money or US $.
Thanks.
That should be fun. I will definitely let you know when I get here.
so precious when you come we will have a little party...
bring some soca tunes and teach us how to dance properly to soca!
I will invite some good friends for you to meet and who will help you with your beauty needs.
best wishes
pm me when you get here so i can set it up!
i am looking forward to meeting you.
Hope you will enjoy your living in Qatar.
I cannot advise on hairdressers for 2 reasons:
1. I am (as male) banned from entering female's hairdressers so there is no insight except what I hear from females.
2. Personally, I do not worry about such issue. I usually cut very short.
My personal advise is to hire a maid who can take care of your hair (Ethiopians are good in this area).
The cost of hairdressers vary depending on the decoration of the place and the reputation of the shop. It would vary from 20$ to 400$ or more.
Good luck
I am from Trinidad and Tobago, the country with the world's greatest carnival, home of the Soca Warriors who created history in World Cup football last year, home of the steelband, calypso, soca, 2 Ms Universe and 1 Ms World winners, an exemplar in racial and cultural diversity.
So you see I am genetically programmed to be friendly, and I looking forward to making friends with people of different nationalities.
Just noticed. We asked very similar questions. I feel the same about the hairdresser. :=) Nice to hear i'm not the only one. I don't have the same type of hair as you, but will still be watching this post carefully!
but precious you can have non-caribbean friends can't you?
join our social group and get involved in a couple activities and you will be fine... you'll soon make friends.
where are you from in the caribbean?
Thank you Oryx. I simply cannot live without a hairdresser :) and I am concerned about being lonely over there so meeting other Caribbean folks would be just great.
yes there are but i dont know the price but i will try and find out.
i am white but i have friends who get their hair steamed or braided or relaxed..
you can buy black hair products easily. there are actually a lot of black Qataris.
