radcua, I've searched the web for a reseller of B&W here in Doha (to no avail, I'm looking for headphones myself), and I find your post implying there might be one. Please elaborate a bit - or were you referring in general, e.g. considering importing them or something?

Copper has lower resistance than aluminum and audio quality will be better but in general it depends on the length of the wires. I spent a couple of weeks snooping around and I have found a few good options, shoot me a PM and I'll give you a few suggestions.

I need to buy cables myself but havent looked for any yet! can you tell me again what's the best kind you're looking for? whay are aluminum cables no good?

Has anyone been able to find quality speaker cables at a reasonable price ? All I've seen has been either aluminium coated copper in a clear casing or a copper wire in a red and black casing. Aluminium is out of the question and these red and black cables are not aesthetically acceptable to be in any room. There are occasional speaker cables available at Digitek but they are not 14 gauge and are extremely expensive compared to their specifications. I have been to the area around Sofitel where they have the electronic stores but wanted to know if there are other stores or a souq where one might find a larger and more professional variety.

B&W and Klispch are both very good high end speakers. You have to have a budget for them. You need to buy them as separates and build your 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1 systems. BAs are comparable to Bose in sound clarity with a lesser price. Polks and JBLs/ Infinitys are more for bass and power if you like loud music.

That was when I last checked it out in Mannai. They have Jamos (floor standing powerful speakers) that you can set up and buy separately. However they need to be driven by a capable AVR. Denon is the number 1 in AVR. You can order it online but you will not get the warranty if in case. Pair it with BA, Polks, JBLs, Bose and even upgrade it to 7.1. Buy a good speaker cable, sub cable and you will never go wrong.

I have nothing against Onkyo! but as i understand, from research and conversations with audiophiles, brands like B&W, Polk audio, Boston acoustics and Klipsch are preffered for home tehater systems..your call though (and budget)

Onkyo receiver with Bose speakers..how is this combination? was planning on goin for this. i think Mannai still got Onkyo.

so you're saying Mannai is no longer the distributor or these brands don't exist in Qatar anymore?

Mannai previously was the distributor of Klipsch and Onkyo receivers. They do not have these brands anymore. 51 East distributes Yamaha AVRs and speakers as well as Bose. Techno Q carries Denon AVR, Boston Acoustics and Polk Audio speakers. Harman house has Infinity. The choices are very limited here. When I set up mine, I went to Techno Q, bought a Denon and BA satellites for our small living room and so far I am very pleased with the results. Good luck.
