lady drivers beware!

gabriela christine
By gabriela christine

an incident took place today which started off as being very annoying but ended as quite frightening for me.

i was driving thru the new salata area today on my way to an appointment and was running a little bit late. in order to try and avoid the build up of traffic due to the road works in that area i decided to go off the main roads and travel along some of the side streets in order to get to my destination.

it was when i was on these side streets that i came across a group of teenage boys. as i slowed down a couple of boys from this group walked out in front of my car and i had to stop completely.i guess they were just fooling around so i tooted my horn and waved at them to move out of the way. as soon as i did this the whole group (approx.10) were all around my car banging on the windows, shouting at me and trying to open the doors. luckily i had already locked the doors and they couldn't get in.

this lasted a couple of minutes and was really quite frightening. i don't know what would have happened if i had not lock the doors.

needless to say from now on i will sticking to the main streets and will definitely keep my doors locked. i would advice all of you ladies driving by yourself to do the same

brats! dont allow them to harass you. take pictures with your cell phone, then report them to the police. if you don't complain, they will do it again.

they are Spoiled Qataris, and y im sure bcz near our home this is very normal ,these boys are sitting in their cars in the middle of the streets with 2 -3 landcruisers , hummers making the road blocks and if someone tries to horn them they are shouting with bullshits, so we have to turn around other way to come to our place....

Oh Amoud, never mind! I was just checking whether you really had it? On second thoughts I feel you don't.

Hmm, I have a disorder because I feel that any guy who jumps up on my car or taxi deserves a good kick up his backside? Or if a guy is making lewd gestures he should get a nice dosing of pepper spray in the face? Do you not feel that if someone is doing this to your sisters, your wife, your daughters or your mother they wouldnt deserve this? I too am someones sister, I am someones mother, I am someones wife and someones daughter. Because I think it is justified to give someone a right smack for harrasing a lady to the point she is scared makes me have a morbid addiction or disorder?

Edifis, I think you perhaps have a disorder which makes you preoccupied with molestation.. with a hint of pedophelia.

We are talking about tasing men who harass women, hardly just for kicks. Alexa and I are poking a little fun at each other.

A morbid addiction? That would insinuate that this is something done on a regular occurance.. such as your reference to molestation.

May be wrong usage of the word,

but it all comes to the same, You have mischief in your mind. You want to harass men just for kicks!

This is a kind of addiction. I am forgetting the name.

Very morbid.

May be this is equivalent to the pleasure boys derive by molesting girls.

Alwahesh, if you read the posts most of us were not attacking Qataris. If someone had an incident with a local does not mean they had a bad experience with all locals. As I said, I have been here a long time and have been harrased by a lot f different nationalities. If you respect people and treat them nicely this doesnt apply to you, but fact is people do behave badly everywhere.

Edifis...LMAO.... check the meaning of molest

Alexa.. just on hols... I am bound here for eternity ;)

Edifis the taser doesnt actually "shock". It attacks the central nervous system and causes temporary paralysis.

If someone behaving like a twat and harrassing women to the point of fear I think they deserve what they get. See how the Jimmy Choo feels on the other foot.

Ha, forget the mace and taser... I am big enough that if anyone messes with me it would be on like Donkey Kong. I am not adverse to smacking someone with a shoe, handbag or just about anything I have in my hand at that moment lol.

Alexa, I will be going home next month... tasers and mace cans and pepper spray .. OH MY!!

In all seriousness it has gotten more dangerous to walk at night here.

A few years back I worked for a company associates with the makers of the Taser. They make a purse size one and offered to give me one but I declined as I knew I wouls probably be walking through the mall tasing random people for shits and giggles.

"Quataris" "don't" do such things! "only a few Quatari youths" yep sounds like a contradiction to me. Give me a break! you speak as though Quatari people are perfect. The are hoodlums in every race, culture, society. Honey if they were there would be no need for forms like this one. Give me a break.

not just locals honest, anything in an abaya lol.... Me and my friends joke that if you put lipstick on a cow the men here would chase it.

I love the phone number signs in the car windows.

Honest, do you remember when they used to throw cassettes in the window of your car?

Gabriela and Mata Hari...so sorry to hear your stories...

where ever it happened who ever did it ...i think you are both very brave - i would have been in tears.

this behaviour is not acceptable anywhere.

one time some guys gave me hassle and i had my camera on the front seat... so i took photos....

they cut me up at the traffic lights and said they were Qatari (tney weren't btw)...i just shouted i dont care...i will take the photos to the police if you do it again...

problem solved.

Hehe, I tower over most of them (5'10 in standard pumps). With my aggressive nature, black abaya and huge SUV I can be a force to be reconed with lol.

I find there to be a bit of a shift in this kind of thing now. It used to happen quite a lot but to be honest in the last few years I havent seen or heard anything like this.

Gabrielle, just a note... make them think you will run their s**t over, they will move.

Agreed Alexa, and true story I swear.

It happens everywhere, but I spend most of my adult life here in Qatar so most of my bad experiences have been here purely due to circumstance. I had an Indian guy in the back of a pick up flapping his tongue at me and pointing at his crotch. We were stopped in traffic at a R/A. After 5 minutes or so of this with all his friends laughing I got out of my car and beat the tar out of him with my sandal.

But who can help??This started to be a real danger:their(Qatari women/man/children) behaviour against foreigners, especially against women!!I know it's just a minority acting bad, but still it's a danger if Police will come to late or will not believe us,isn't it?!I remember one recent post(Leona)saying that while she was jogging in Aspire Park some KIDS spoke bad to her and her friend and their mothers(in abaya)were using violent language too...Now u tell us ab. teenagers, come on, approx.10, I don't want to imagine, they can be very violent in a group!!!Today I read ab.kids from a school bus spitting on a bus full of workers.Smthg bad happened to me also, while waiting in the car at Ramada signal:it was an other car waiting near, with 3-4 teenagers dressed in white(like Qataris)coming from school(with a driver,of course!), making obscene signs to me, shouting, trying to make photos with their phones.I avoided to look in their direction;normally, I would have reacted in consequence, maybe going to them and slapping at least one!Don't want to talk about the adventures in traffic, a long list ab. Qatari man and The Traffic Law against women drivers! I really don't understand why is happening this: like most expat women here I am trying to respect the dress code, the internal regulations, I got informed ab.their traditions and daily customs, so, I demand this respect not only back to me but to all of foreign people working for the future of this country!

It happens, and all nationalities do it. A friend and I had a bad experience where we were in a taxi and got trapped in traffic after a big football match. The guys (all locals unfortunatly) said "Hey there are girls in the car" and proceeded to jump on top of the taxi, rock the car and bang on the windows... scary stuff. I dont think they would have done anything, just trying to give us a bit of a scare.
