Masters Degree in UK University

I know that this has nothing to do with living in Qatar, but i was wondering if someone has any idea about the reputation of masters degrees in Middle Eastern studies from UK universities? Any thoughts on living in Manchester in terms of living costs and quality of life? Is the University of Manchester considered good on the national level? i read several reports that said they are but i am not sure about the credibility of the reports. UK vs US universities: which would you choose and why?

Any other pointers on this issue are highly appreciated in advance,

Thank you all,

Anzal, any idea what exactly is the difference between a taught course and a research course? And does the word "course" here mean an actual degree because i've seen both words being used interchangeably so i was wondering what's the difference?

thank you all for your help!

yes i am planning to get an MA in Middle Eastern studies...i already ordered a Financial Times guide for universities and i am meeting with some folks from the British Council soon. I just thought i would sound out everyone -- opinions can never hurt.

Oryx, can you give me more details about what you mean with respected internationally? Any stats to prove that? And can you please tell me how cheaper it is? My main concern is accommodation as it will probably drain my puny financial capabilities the most! Any extra help is appreciated :)

Manchester Uni is a respected globally not just nationally.

Manchester is cheaper than London.

It certainly it isn't the most atractive ciy but it is vibrant.....

Also when ever you leave Manchester which ever direction you drive in there is stunning countryside... Lake District, Yorkshire and Peak District and Snowdonia...

it rains a lot ... and it has the best football team in the world.
