Motivation for productivity
We all wish we could be more productive but laziness gets the best of us. Watching movies always seems more tempting than actually getting work done. But let’s try to fix that.
When I have a lot of work to do that I don’t want to do, instead of actually doing it, I have a bad habit of searching online for motivation to be productive. That feeling of actually getting most, if not all, your work done in one go feels amazing and I want more of it.
While searching for this inspiration to work, I came across a YouTuber called Thomas Frank whose videos are all about productivity. His videos really help me snap back into focus and I think he might help you too.
Here are some tips I’ve gathered from some of his videos.
Create a weekly plan, as well as, a daily plan in order of when you want to get them done. Make sure you include the task you want to do and the time you aim to get it done. But keep in mind that we are very bad at planning for things that go wrong so add a little extra time to your estimate.
Use something called the Pomodoro Technique. Instead of dedicating hours of time to get something done and exhausting yourself, break your time down into intervals. Usually it would be 25 minutes of work with short, 5 minute breaks in between, with absolutely no distractions. That means put all forms of technical communication away and isolate yourself from people who will interrupt your work.
Create a reward/punishment system for when you actually do get a task out of the way. Each time you get something done, you will look forward to completing the next task so that you can get the reward you’ve set up for yourself when you do it or avoid the consequences of not getting it done in time.
For me personally, the best way to get things done is to think about how free my time will be after I’ve gotten every burden out of my way so just consider that as well! It feels much better to watch my movies and shows with no worries about what work I have to do.
How do you tackle your lack of motivation to be productive?
