THIS IS TRULY IMPORTANT !
Well I was responding to the original post was about being electrocuted by a mobile that was plugged in, so I posted a link about this.
As for batteries exploding, yes this happens but only rarely and normally with 3rd party/cheap batteries. Hence why mobile manufacturers always state that you should only use spares and accessories made by them. Unfortunately people prefer to save money and buy cheap and potentially (but unlikely) dangerous ones instead.
btw, it isn't the voltage that kills in an electric shock, it's the current. You can die from a very low voltage shock if the current is high enough (which it probably isn't in a mobile phone). For example, a static electricity shock may contain 1000s of volts but has very little current in it, so hence it doesn't kill you.
And so ends todays lesson ;-)

AbuAmerican - the attachment uploaded to this thread by dana_abdul says the following;
A person was recharging his cell phone next to his bed.
Just at that time a call came in and he answered it with the instrument still connected to the outlet. After a few seconds electricity flowed into the cell phone unrestrained and the young man was thrown to the ground with a heavy thud.
The website I linked to above says the following;
Using cell phones while they are being recharged poses a general and serious danger of electrocution: False
Some cell phone batteries can explode and/or start fires: True
So yes, the website says cell phone batteries can explode, but the attachment is talking about electrocution via the mains and mentions nothing about exploding batteries. So check & re-check your facts, bro.

Shame - with a bit of effort you could find that Hoaxbusters is up, but the front page is down, so I'll give you that one!
Regarding your advice to check the facts, the fact is that it seems only the cheaper third-party batteries can overheat and explode and those cases have been reported. To my knowledge there has not been a case of a correctly functioning origiinal-equipment battery reported as malfunctioning.
Generally i find thats peeps don t bother to do a bit of research before thety forward these panic-button type of emails around the planet.
Sorry if I gave you any other impression.
However it doesn't list this particular hoax, walthough Hoax Slayer does.
f you're living life on the edge, you've got too much room.
Always check the hoaxbusters website first.

well done tallg
This is BS. See here;

Please stop spreading these unfounded, sensationalist rumours.

The posts here are about using the phone while being plugged for charge. The injuries incidents, I talked about above, were published in newspapers, they were not serial emails. I am mindful of any information I disseminate and not making them up. Feel free to choose you way. Salaam
Two years ago, laptops had the same problem. A specific design of battery was used in Dell, IBM, HP, and Toshiba laptop computers.
A bunch of those went up in flames in North America. It being a laptop you can imagine the nature of injuries and the resulting law suites
Anyway, all the makers recalled the affected machines and replaced the batteries free of charge.
It is an Urbun Myth :)
^^
but i do it always... but now ooo im scared.. lol.
tnx for the info

Recharging cellphone explodes....
It cannot possibly be ...cause the adapter converts the 240V AC to 6Volts DC to charge. 6 Volts DC is a very weak charge to even hurt a child.
So its just fake emails just like the "chinese slippers email".
Last year, one or two incidents were reported of persons answered/dialed the phone while plugged for charging. The phone exploded and caused burns/injuries.
I completely stopped this habit. I just unplug it temporarily to use it, then re-charge again.
Thanks for your post. May we all be safe.
Salaam
meh, the powerpoint presentation is more alarmist than informative.
The largest problem with regards to exploding batteries is cheap 3rd party counterfeit
batteries. They use cobalt oxide instead of a phosphate based lith-ion battery.
Colbalt oxide lithions will undergo a chain reaction when they reach a certain
temperature (around 140F), resulting in a bang.
Newer phosplate based lith-ions don't have this problem.
I use to do this as well! but this looks very alaming!
It's great 2 b loved!
Me too, but now i won't do it again. Better be careful than regretful...
"There's nothing we can do to change the past, if it teaches you a lesson profit from it then, forget it."
I do it all the time, never had a problem!
