Thanks guys for all the replies. My in-laws stay in Doha so have visited a few times and will probably come this year too. I really enjoy Doha - the food, the people, weather and visually. Its a place I have grown fond of.

Have been thinking about moving out for a while but dont know if I would like the place to live. I have a small family (2 kids) and in UK we get free education, healthcare etc. Dont know if a bump up in salary and good weather is a good enough incentive to move..

Hoby, Here you will have to bathe twice daily .......... That's single biggest difference in a person's life ...........

Contract terms will get honoured by the employer as you are westerner

Cons: Will not find alcohol at stores or supermarkets

Will not be able to kiss your girlfriend on the streets

Will not be able to drive under the influence of alcohol

Will not be able to enjoy seeing girls running around in bikinis either at malls or at the beaches

Will not be able to find drugs anywhere

Will not be able to find nightclubs

Will not be able to sleep with your girlfriend

(Other than the salary, possibly you may be losing much!)

Pro: Good medical facilities

Con: only if you have private medical insurance

Con:

Don't go to Hamad. They intentionally make you wait hours, meanwhile a Qatari gets checked over within 5 mins

WT: initially people come here and say ... Great no rain.. Sun all year round

Then the novelty wears off - especially in the summer heat and they say .. Please let there be some rain to settle the dust, wash the streets and water the plants

How can 'no rain' be a pro and con at the same time? That's not logical, at the least.
