Qatar to UAE by road

Has anyone travelled by road to UAE? How long is the travel time? I can travel to all GCC with my visa, so do I still need to get a transit visa seperate when I pass Saudi? or can I get a VOA. I hear I need to wait for an hour in Saudi for immigration. Can someone tell me how this works? Thanx
