A transit visa to the UAE is exactly that. If you try to go to Riyadh or other regions, the police may stop you and send you back. There are checkpoints along all the major routes - so why risk it.

Im keen on knowing this as well. Esp the question put by the op above. How long you can one spend while on transit via Saudi? I would also like to know while on transit route can a person drift his path to Riyadh as the op wants while going to UAE / Bahrain?

Dear friend,

There is an easy way if you are planning to go by road, Apply for a transit visa as if you are going to UAE or Bahrin. Embassy did not accept application directly, there are agents whom you can contact. I went to Saudi last month like this. Please contact me at 66507879 if you need more details.

Regards,

Saudi is now in the spirit of Hajj and you will not get tourist/visit visas now (not only umrah visas). They are not fools.

Isn't a tourist visa to Saudi an oxymoron?
